Hi all, Here is the scenario, you are about to have a child you don't know if it is going to be a boy or a girl and you and your spose have to pick a name for your child. What names would you choose for a boy? For a girl?

For a girl I've always liked the name Antonia. I have an uncle and a cousin named Anthony so I guess it's a family thing LOL. For a boy? Hmmmmm I was always into ancient historical and mythical names of the heros and gods. My favorite name was Hector, until I dated a guy named Hector, the relationship went badly so I forgot about that name. So I settled on Hannibal, until the movie "Silence of the Lambs" came out! Guess it's a good thing I never had any kids.. LOL

craftcatcher, thanks for the input. it is defitely a hard decision to make because that is your child's identity. antonia seems like a really nice name!

What you said about it being your child's identity is very true. I posted I am a lexigram'er and for me that shows how much a name has meaning. basically you take the letters in a person's name and you can learn a bit about the person. example ADOLF HITLER = LORD OF HATE, FOE OF LIFE But also there is the way people percieve names, a name you may like may be great now, but in six years it may be considered a nerds name, and so the child gets picked on for it. I did like Antonia, that is lovely I think it sounds prettier than Antonette.

I am torn because I would want to choose a name that has personal meaning, but I would want one I like alot as well. But for me I have places some significance in the power of names. I am a Lexigram'er, for this reason I would have to first pick the name then make sure it gels with the last name of the child, should it be my own or the man I am involved with. I would love to name a boy out of respect for my mom, who did name me this until more than a week after I was born, Jeffery Thomas, she wanted a son, LOL she didn't even pick out a girls name I don't think I had one for a couple of weeks. For a girl, I would have to think about it, I have some I am fond of, I like Dorothy Eden, or Eden Dorothy, Melissa is another name I like. I would have to also look at the current trend, I would not want my child to have to old fashioned a name but not one that is to common. I went to school with a minimum of 3 people with my name in my class sometimes as many as 6 of us. One of the kids I used to care for, was a Heather, and three of her friends were named Jennifer. It could get confusing. So you may want to find out what the most popular names are right now for this year, and then maybe not choose those. I would have to consider what the man in my life wants if he wanted to name the child after someone who meant a lot to him or if he had a favorite name. The problem with naming children after someone in the family comes when there are 8 Thomas' 9 Christopher's, and 6 John's. I speak from experience among the cousins and since Chris is short for Christine, and Chistopher there are actually 12 Chris' in the family, more if you go into another generation.
