A long term drug user was arrested recently after stealing a car. She was held in jail and while there an examination provided a diagnosis of cervical cancer ..at her hearing she was offered the option of release until trial date...since she has no health insurance she has opted to stay in jail so that the taxpayers of Washington state will pick up the bill for her cancer treatment. How do you feel about this? Do you see it as a health care issue? A moral issue? Her past is a long history of drug abuse and theft...her latest theft almost left the victim homeless as the loss of her car put such a financial burden on her..People are outraged and some are supportive...What's your stance?

Wow that is amazing that they would rather stay in hospital to have their cancer treated so it will not cost them so much money. It is a health care issue and I do not understand why it would cost her money when in Australia if you do not have private cover at least you will still be treated without costing any money. These kind of people deserve not to be treated the same as above look what she did to the other victims

She has actually had MANY victims and if you read my posts to others responses there are many women in our state that have the same diagnosis minus the addiction and the criminal history and they are having to shoulder the financial burden to get the treatment they want...we do have a welfare system that she should qualify for and it would normally cover those that are without ability to pay...but being that this would be considered a "pre-existing condition" perhaps that is the trigger...Whatever happens it has sparked some pretty intense debates around here...

Well. I don't know her story but my first instinct is to be outraged that the taxpayers would have to support her. Its sad.. Its sickening to know that there are honest hard working people out there who have nothing because of people such as herself.
