Should We Feed the Homeless?

Our society has become so lenient toward those on the streets that they are enabling them to stay homeless. There's no reason for addicts and lazy bums to be anything eles because so many are giving to them without thinking about what they are doing.
The Bible says that he who will not work shall not eat. Now, I'm not against helping someone get back on their feet who is temporarily going through a hard time but that is not what is happening with most people who are on the street. I live in Los Angeles and I see these people constantly and most of them are addicts, not someone who has simply lost a job and needs help getting back on their feet.
The best thing that anyone can do for these people is to give to an organization that truly helps people get off the street and become functional adults. Give to an organization that is accountable for where the money goes instead of handing it over to someone who is likely to spend it feeding an addiction.
My perspective is that if we quit giving to these people and enabling them to continue on in their addictions or laziness, they will get hungry enough to finally do something besides sit on their fanny. As far as I'm concerned, anyone who is unwilling to work and support themselves instead of sitting on their tail ends begging or collecting welfare should be allowed to starve. If they get hungry enough, they will change their tune.
If we keep enabling these people to sit on their fanny instead of earning what they get, we are nothing better than fools. People need to realize that there is a difference between compassion and being stupid. Compassion helps someone get on their feet while stupidity enables them to stay in their addictions and in their poverty.
Americans need to stand up and say "enough is enough" and demand that the soft-hearted, mis-guided liberals quit enabling the homeless to remain homeless. We need to quit giving away our tax dollars to people who are unwilling to work and who sit around collecting welfare or money from people who mean well but are being suckered by a group either too lazy to work or who need help to get out of their addictions. First, we need to realize that they will never reach out for real help as long as fools keep giving them money to stay in their situation.

I believe that you are absolutely correct and i understand exactly what you are talking about, because i see it myself. i have an uncle like that, he's about 40 and he's been in and out of jail and rehabs most of his life, claiming he's ready to change. And my mom her family used to give him money and let him stay in they're houses and it would drive me crazy until one day he started stealing from them, then they finally realised they shouldnt be pacifying him.

I'm sorry it took him stealing from them to understand how serious it is to enable people to live like that. It's not only an issue of money but of safety because addicts especially can turn very mean when they don't get what they want to feed that addiction. They can even become violent. I hope your uncle didn't hurt anyone of your family members physically, though I know it hurts them emotionally to see him like that. The best thing you can do is pray for him because he still needs your love and compassion, just not your enablement or pity.
