I ran nursing home food service operations for many years and found it to be a very rewarding job. You can get to know all kinds of people and all about their eating habits. If you like to cook and I do , you can learn some really good old fashioned country cooking tips from some of those little old country grannys. You can also learn some very interesring ehtnical cooking tips as well. I am now leagelly blind, {I still can see somee, but not very well},but that does not slow me down as far as my cooking. I try and enjoy some of the tips I learned from my residents over the years.

Well for one thing, if you get something a little too salty, just add a tablespoon of sugar. You would be surprized. It will take away the overly salty taste. Here is another one, if you make your own pie crust from scratch, Try putting the shortening in the frig for about 20-30 minutes before you cut it in. Then put ice in your water and add the water a tablespoon full at a time. For a smooth cream or milk gravy brown the flour with the salt and pepper in it to a light golden color and let the milk sitt out for a half hour before you need to add it to the flour roux stirring continously until all is mixed then stir until desired thickness. These are just a few things I learned over the years from good country and professional cooks.
