We know why people like the Harry Potter series, but what about those who hate the books? I mean I can understand a few of the christians who hate it -- they all seem to have different reasons, it doesn't mean I agree with them I just understand. So..do you have any speculations why people get so worked up over a single books -- usually fiction? I always dislike looking over the list of banned books in libraries..it just strikes me as extremely wrong. If you hate Rowling's books..could you explain to me why?

Hi there my little buddy: I do not hate their books but I think the people who do hate them are very small people who really dont realize or know a good book from a bad book they have nothing better to do with their time so they go around looking for things to put down. Some I feel just have so much hate in their hearts that they have to find someone or something to direct thier hatred to. I love the Harry Potter books and I have even watched most of the movies which are quite good if your into fantasy and I love fantasy and of course good spooky movies.LOL Anyway I had to respond to your discussions whic is a good one and I hope that the people who hate the harry potter books will tell you why best of luck and keep up the good work. your buddy lilyruth

I'm rather fond of the Harry Potter series (books and movies) as well. 'Horror' and fantasy movies tend to be alot more fantastic then some other genres I think..especially since the horror and fantasy genre can do alot more now that technology's caught up with it. Thanks, and thanks for responding.

I agree with that..but out of a whole load of books which have recently made it onto the big screen they at least come very close. Only more recently, with the Goblet of Fire have a really started to get a bit aggitated over all that they cut out of the original book. I still like the movies, to watch they're amazing..but I do agree that the movies aren't as nearly as great as the books were.

I love the books, but I can't really stand the movies. You lose too much in the translation from page to screen. I mean, you can't cut 600 pages down to 2 and a half hours and keep the plot intact.

Most books that I have seen banned or criticised have been for religious reasons. Books like Satanic Verses, Lajja and Da Vinci Code have all faced problems due to religious reasons. The fact that religion is actually supposed to be tolerant and should be able relieve people of their problems seems lost on the so called powers be in most religions. So to work up a frenzy and controversy they tend to take fiction seriously and cause a lot of havoc. I think that if people tend to become more tolerant religiously and not get worked up by some of the intolerant leaders, then the world would be a much better place to live. You are absolutely right when you say that it strikes you as extremely wrong, because probably you also like to read books and the author's views and look at it as his/her viewpoint and not as a comment on any religion. That tolerance is something that needs to be taught more often in schools. Cheers! Ram

It's silly that people want books banned when they're written well..just because they don't agree with what the book says. It's even sillier I think when people take fiction too seriously. It should always be intresting to see what others think, and not something to condemn outright. Tolerance should really be taught everywhere I think. Thanks for responding!

Personally I love Harry Potter. When those Christians protest these books I think they only make them more popular.
