I am curious as to what parents feel is the norm for feeding solid foods.
See when my sons were little, they said no solid food before the age of four months, now I think its nothing before 6 months?
Reason I am asking is I had a friend of mine feed their then 5 week old daughter solid food. Im not talking rice cereal, im talking custard in the bottle and by spoon. Do you think this is right? The kiddo is now over a year old, but it still bugs me to know an infant that small was fed babyfood.
thoughts?

well i think babies are not yet ready to eat solid food if they are below six months, but if they are six months and above, i think they can eat like for example, cereals..etc.

I have to say that my oldest son who is now 9 and healthy , was a big baby we are talking 9lbs 5oz , and i was giving him gerber baby bannanna's at the age of 2 weeks old mixed in with his formula and i did this because he stayed hungary all of the time and the formula was not filling him up at all , I couldnt keep giving him bottle after bottle of formula but by adding the baby food it thickened his formula enough to where he was eating every 2 hours and he turned out fine , sometimes instead of listening to the doctors you have to go with your gut !!!
if your baby is not getting full are you gonna let them be hungary or do something about it ??? so all you ahve to do is feed your baby soft foods and monitor how much your giving her , don't over do it and she will be fine ... and my son loved the little gerber bitter biscuits too which he started eating when he began to teath ...
** fozen waffles make great teethers for your baby they can't break them off and they have built in drewl cups as well ... lol my son never used orajel at all ...

my baby is now five months old,and i am thinking of starting to feed him solid foods, but the doctor says he must be six months to start.
but whenever i am eating ang my baby is with me, he is looking at the food and opening his mouth as if i am going to feed him.my baby wants to eat,but i am afraid not to obey doctor's advice.

I was giving my son cereal and a spoonful of bananas in his bottle by the time he was 2 months. Only you know your baby and it's eating patterns. Although I wouldnt give my baby that kind of food at 5 weeks , it wouldnt hurt at maybe 2 months . I mean honestly if you had to drink milk all day , you would still be hungry to lol.

When babies are super little, their digestive systems aren't capable of extracting the nutrients from regular food yet. That's why they drink mother's milk or formula.
We started DS on rice cereals at 4 months, and then at 6 months we started with veggies, fruits, grains & meats. We did those one at a time for a few days to test for any allergens. Then when he seemed fine with those, probably around 8 or 9 months, we started adding in more variety. He's almost 16 months and will eat pretty much anything except mashed potatoes. :)

I had a friend who fed her 2 month old spaghettios. I think stuff like that is alright. As long as it is not something they REALLY need to chew they are alright. Like, I wouldn't give a 3 month old a potato chip or something. But then again every parent is different.

Honestly I think 5weeks old is way too early. I didnt offer solids to my kids untill they were about 4months old and then it was just cereal by the spoon. I was told by my peditrician that it was bad togive a baby cereal in the bottle. I guess that if the child is healthy that is all that matters.

I think it is wrong to feed such a small baby anything apart form milk their tiny bodys are not ready for solid foods and they get all they need from the milk wether it be mothers or formula .Solids should not even be introduced before six months and in the case of my children they were nine months before they had their first solids

i started feeding my son solid foods when he was just 2 weeks from 4 months. yes 5 weeks is way to young. their digastive tract isnt all that good. im surprised that the baby didnt have real bad conspation or worse an allrgic reaction.

My niece is around 10 months old.We only fed her fish with porridge when she was around 8-9 months old.We were feeling unsure whether she would be suitable to consume solid food at such early period though we have heard that some babies have already started consuming solid food as early as 3-4 months. It really depends on what parents think about it.I would worried they might get choked since they are still unable to chew their food.
