Cats can suffer conjunctivitis from bacterial and viral. Bacterial infection on its own is less usual, as the eyes have good defence mechanisms, and is usually found secondary to physical damage or irritation (these will mostly clear with antibiotic ointment for a few days), or secondary to a primary infection by a virus,,The exception is the bacteria Chlamydia psittaci. The big three as regards serious eye infection in cats are Feline Herpes Virus, Feline Calici Virus and Chlamydia psittaci. The first two are usually referred to as the cat flu viruses. Despite vaccination Feline herpes and calici viruses are still common as they are very contagious and pools of infection are maintained in multi-cat households, catteries and feral colonies. They are usually associated with respiratory symptoms, sneezing, runny nose, mouth ulcers and fever lasting a few days. Sometimes these are severe enough to be life threatening. Kittens are at most risk when their maternal immunity starts to wane at about 5 to 7 weeks old so they get exposed before any vaccination can be carried out. So i would get our kitten and cats ot the vet asap and get some antibiotics and eyes drops asap..lots of luck!

Would some antibiotics and eye drops really help all at once??

Many vets have weekend appointments orlater hours to help those that have unusual schedules. I would get them to the vet, if more than one has the same thing it is probably contagious to other cats and most likely will need to be handled by prescription medicine. Good Luck, let us know the outcome.

I would not let this go too long. I have Persian cats and they have runny eyes because of their flat noses, but they have had infection in them and the vet has given me medication for them. This should not be ignored.

I think you need to take them to the vet before it gets worse. Think of it this way.. would you let your child go without seeing the doctor in this condition if it wasn't clearing up? Sounds like bacterial infection and I think drops and possibly antibiotics are the best thing to have for it right now.
