I have been doing research on a gfcf diet, and for over a month I pretty much had my son on a gf diet. While he was on the diet his behavior didn't seem to change much. He still had meltdowns and he still repeated phrases and he continued to stem. Over and Over again. I also don't think it helped with his stomach problems like going to the bathroom. However, he did get used to most of the food, and I was able to replace almost everthing he enjoyed eating such as bread and butter and for a special treat a natural coke. Does anybody know more about this diet? Should I try the diet longer to see any real affects?

I think the diet works but it has to be done very strictly as sometimes if they go for parties or outings or in school if they are given the products which contain gluten and cesain then they may have behavior problems, I have kept my son on the diet I find he has improved a lot, I think it is worth the try. they will need additional supplements if they dont drink regular milk etc as they will have less Calcium their teeth may not grow well and also bones can become weak so they have to be given things rich in calcium etc and also B vitamines etc.

My husband and I have been sort of doing the GF diet, but not the CF diet. Our son is 3, and when we took him in for his round of medical testing, everything pretty much turned up normal. There was no allergy testing or anything like that, so we don't know why he has eczema.. which I believe would most likely be food related. This is partly why I thought going GF would be a good idea. However, we have not been 100% GF. We've sort of been in the "testing" stage, to see what products are worth eating, you know? LOL Some people swear by this diet, however. I have heard that for some kids, it might take a while to see a real difference.. months, even. For others, those who have allergies to wheat, for example, the difference might be more immediate.
I'm curious- have you noticed any change in your son's BM's since going GF? My son has rarely had a solid stool since we started this diet. (Our whole family is eating the food, btw.. not just him).
BTW.. if your son isn't allergic to nuts, I really suggest Blue Diamond Almond milk. It is SOOOO good. I've been tasting a few different brands and types of "non milk" drinks, and that is by far the best, IMO, thus far. It isn't chalky, there's no wierd after taste.. it comes in vanilla, chocolate, and both my kids love it. I'm quite impressed with it.
Also, write to companies and explain what you're doing. I've been doing that and have been getting some great coupons for GF foods! :)

We thought real hard about the GFCF die a few years ago. As Alex would eat very little of anything, we decided it would do him more harm than good to limit his food intake further.
You say you only tried Gluten free? I think ( I cant remember for certain) it takes around 3-4 months to purge the body of gluten. Perhaps you should do casein free at the same time, normally recommended. Casein takes around 3 weeks to leave the body - I'm sure I will be corrected if I'm wrong.
