Why do you think being beautiful or handsome is an advantage in getting a job? Is it really important to have it as a qualification?

We all are programmed to believe that beautiful people are somehow more intelligent and really have it all together. Something in us makes us believe this at first. The opposite is true for someone who is ugly. The problem with applying that to trying to get a job is it all depends on what that job entails. If looking good is important then yes it will help. But if experience....intelligence.....self assurance or just having a good personality is more important, then beauty comes somewhere down the line. However personality trumps them all. If you have a great outgoing personality and have good common sense you have it made over most everyone else regardless of your looks.

pleasing personality will add to the qualification in securing a job. being handsome or not doesnt really matter if you are really qualified. but a neat haircut and shave to look smart is accepted code in getting a job.

If you have the qualifications of course with looks or without I think you have the right to get the job! Looks doesn't really matter, and I agree on that! Thank you to all who responds!

Pleasing personality is not the same as being attractive. I would say qualifications do come first but having a pleaseing personality makes a huge difference after that. Of course, in come cases, looks may also play a part in getting a job depending on the interviewer.

i agree that pleasing personality is different from being attractive. But most of the time, you get to be attractive because of your pleasing personality. For me, having pleasing personality is really an advantage. Specially if the nature of the job you are applying requires it. Like in my case, i work in a service company. When we face our clients, we need to have that pleasing personality so that it'll be easy for us to get what we need from them.

i think qualification is the major thing for getting job, after that your attitude, means how you behaving if suddenly any problems arrives. after that your communication skills. and then finnally that how beautiful or handsome you are for that work.

well beautiful or handsome people are mostly the ones taken especially for jobs that always deal with people like the one's in the front desk, the flight attendants. But really you don't need to be that beautiful or handsome in order to get a job but if you are then you have an edge oh that is if you have the brains too..

Being beautiful and handsome is not really an assurance that you will get the job against other ugly applicants. It always depends upon what job are you applying for. Even though an applicant is not that beautiful but she has that pleasing personality or let me say neat and tidy. So being handsome and beautiful is not really important to qualify but as long as you are pleasing to the eyes of everyone and you know how to react with their questions ...then gurl you have that edge.!!!

Now the trend have changed. employers look for REquired Talents from the candidates rather than their looks. But for certain Industry like Hotel and Tourism Looks are pre requisite.

Most jobs that will entertain or meet customers like bank teller, manager, saleslady, sales representative etcetera are the jobs the require pleasing personality. I think having a pleasing personality would reflect the persons attitude but this is not also true in all cases. Some jobs don't need the pleasing personality but the skills and talents of the person like the works like programmer, illustrators artist, writers, engineers. But some companies though the work does not directly communicate with customers also look at the persons pleasing personality. So, if you apply for a job it is important to clean and dress properly so that your employeer would like you.

Yes, beautiful look can add some points to your resume. But according to what I heard and saw around me, if you know what to say, how to make up to your superior, get along with your colleagues and such(sounds a little uncomfortable), you got more chance to be promoted. Even if you are competent enough, these things are necessary. I tell you about this, I know the principle, but actually I can't live up to them. I just am not that kind of person.
