I live here and LOVE it.. but I have lived here all my life... so I know nothing different. BUT I have been to different states... and always think I can live there. But when I come home... I am so happy to see the beauty and everytime I see a picture of Alaska, I wonder how people who have lived her can leave the state.

No I haven't but I want to move there. I want to live on the coast. My aunt and uncle went on a cruise there and the pictures they brought back were absolutely beautiful.
Does your husband have a specific place that he wants to move to? I am asking because the different areas of Alaska a very different.

We havent decided yet on a specific place but we are taking a trip there when he gets back from overseas. We are in the Military and considered getting stationed there but that never happened. So we are going to vacation there.

More than ten years now. I have lived in a few other states and have been to almost all of the US states and a few foreign countries. Anchorage is just like any other big city with major crime, regular murders, plenty of McDonald's and all of that. Fairbanks is a dusty and smoky city in the summer and bitter cold in the winter. Just about anywhere else in the state has a lot smaller communities that feel like home once you get to know the people. The state is very diverse - rainy and mild temperatures in the southeast, long summer days in the north, there are farming areas in the mat-su valley and tiny native villages along the rivers and coastlines. If your husband wants to move up then he'll love it. You, however better do a lot more research!

I currently live in Anchorage, Alaska. I have lived here my entire life. My father was stationed here when he was in the military before I was born and he loved it so much that my parents decided never to leave. That was about 30 some years ago, and back then, Anchorage was mostly trees, lol. Now it is a pretty large city with alot of opportunity. There are good jobs here and the real estate market is still doing well. The yearly bonus Alaskans receive just for living here is nice too. All Alaskans get a portion of Alaskas oil revenue each year. It is for each member of your family. I do plan to move to a warmer climate soon, but this is a wonderful place to live.

i've personally never lived there but i know people that have. it depends on where he wants to live. best bet is to live near a city like fairbanks or anchorage. some parts of alaska really do have 6 months of no sunrise and six months of no sunset. it depends if you'll like it. if your a nature person you'll love it. if you want a big bustling city before you comit do some research.

I lived in Valdez, Alaska for two years. It was beautiful but far away from Anchorage and the big cities. Not too much available in that small town. I did not do well in the winter there. My body needs lots of sunshine. The photo i am adding is copyrighted by me and is a waterfall located in valdez, Alaska.
