do flash drives / memory sticks have expiration??

a friend of mine recently told me that flash drives cannot be relied on for long periods of time coz they have expirations..data get deleted after a certain period of time. is this true??

Thats aload of tripe...flash drives are designed to last forever, if im not mistaken all they are, are just chips that are the same one used in computers but put into a smaller casing and can be used for external use so i dont see why they would have an expiration, but dont worry they definitely dont have one
