i think its rite to ban orkut at these places
i m a student of computer institute
else of practising i used to send scrap to my friends on orkut
i was wasting my parents money which they paid in the form of fees
the only advantage is that my typing speed is improving

there are lot many things to distrac but then still unknowingly we do since only they do not affect us so we dont bother but then why is a site only human made thing is making our attention towords it ? isn't this insane ? n dont you think everything controling is better than stopping sometimes?

orkut is a community mainly meant for fun. School, colleges, offices ban it because it can distract mind from productive and educative jobs. They legally have the right to ban any site which they want and sites not involved in any purpose for which they provide internet. However as said in last reply there are numerous free proxy sites(like hidemyass.com) available on the net by which you can easily bypass the restriction.
However in my opinion I personally don't like banning of sites. I am too a website designer and I also run a small friends community site.

yeah i think its right to ban orkut in work places bcoz it distracts some one from working.oherwise its a very good site .even i met with friends whom i met 1-2 years ago .

Orkut helps us to keep in touch with our old frnds and also helps to find new frnds. But most of the people get addicted to it and spend most of the time in it. So, if it is not banned in offices, then most of the employees will spend time in that and will fail to complete the job in time. This is the main reason for orkut being banned in many offices. Also, in orkut lots of pronographics are there and it is also one of the reason for orkut being banned.

I think orkut is a very good site which i have come across so i really dont think that it should be banned just because of 2-3 disadvantages.
i have meet many of my old friends because of orkut and atleast now i am aware about them and i am in the contact with them.
so i dont think that it should be banned.
