Why did the 92 cricket world cup take place after a 5yr gap?

It was because it was held in Australia and New Zealand and the cricket season is held at a different time of the year. It was still being held in the 1991-1992 season but just at the end of the season. The actual gap between the world cups was 4 years and 3 months ...
Incidentally the 1996 and 1999 world cups only had 3 years between them which was for the same reason.

it was beacause only in the 1992 world cup all the new inovations were done so to implement them there was a slight delay....
facts of 1992 world cup
first day and night match was played in 1992 WC
first time white ball was used
first time colour uniforms were intorduced
first time 50 overs match was played
