I love CSI, but it's totally fake.
There are no forensic labs that look like that and most don't have the money to buy 90% of the toys they buy. They seem to always have a toy for everything. There just isn't the funding for that.
The other problem is they seem to pick up on important clues. Well, guess what, when detectives walk into a crime scene there is potential evidence everywhere. CSI seems to be able to pick the one strand of hair on the floor that is the key. Well, guess what, in a murder crime scene, there are generally 200 hairs there and only 1 may be important. Yet they don't have the funding to do DNA on every single strand and find the one important one.
The show is great, but I hope too many don't hold what happens as reality.

They also seem to treat every single case as a murder scene. There will be a bike on the side of the road and guess what, it's a murder. No body, no missing person, no signs of fowl play, yet, it's a murder from the second they see the bike.
I work for a Police Department and I get people calling us all the time asking why our investigations take so long. Well, firstly, we have about 200 ongoing cases now with 4 detectives. So it's not like he gets a case and solves it in 3 days straight.
People also want to know quite often why we don't do more. For example, we have some people that get lawn jobs done quite often (that is someone drives their car through our complainants yard) and they want us to do a mold of the tire track for when a suspect come up. They also think we should put thousands of dollars of surveilance equipment at their house. And this only happens 2-3 times a year. They don't understand that it's not really cost effective at all to do so thanks to TV doing it all the time.

I love watching CSI. It amazes me at times how they find things. Not just with technology but finding new ways of looking at it and using sometimes every day items to get the answers. It's one show I do enjoy because of the different and new things they show to us. Makes me wonder though what they aren't showing.

I am totally hooked on CSI and I have learnt so much since the series began. It has made watching other crime shows more interesting too as I find myself looking at the forensics

I love all the CSIs! The equipment they use is all actual equipment, and they have advisors on hand to help them use it realistically. Of course, real labs don't have all that stuff, it would be too expensive. Some specialize in certain things and collaborate with others for other things. But they are well written shows with good story lines.
