I never need go far from my home as a student so I wasn't at your place ever. But I can understand the feeling of missing people.I haven't big family, so for me my family(except of course my son and husband)are my husband's family.I love them and they love me back very much. When I'm with them I feel so good....a member of a big family, surround with a lot of love ,more safely with people I can trust 100% .....just they live at another country and even if I spend few months of the year with them I miss them a lot.I hope you adapt soon and you feel better. My best wishes for your study and when you feel upset or lonely always wherever you are you can come at talk with your mylot friends.

When I first moved away to college, I was incredibly homesick. So much so, I was calling home every day to check in. However, as time went on, I began to realize my life was a lot better away from home, as my former home was not the happiest place on earth for me.
For the past few months, my family has actually been the one reason that I don't go home. I can't stand the fighting, and every time I return I feel stressed.
The only thing I really miss about my old home now is not my family, but the land and the animals. I grew up in a rural area, and throughout most of my life we had livestock. That said, the things I miss the most are playing with my dogs, laying down in the hay with a baby goat in my lap, and taking cat naps in the pecan tree in our back yard.
I do miss my best friend, and all the things we used to do. However, at the same time, I realize that soon my best friend will graduate from boot camp, and he'll be stationed not too far from me. I'll be able to see him every weekend, if I want too. Then we can come up with new hang outs (save for Starbucks, that's always at the top of the list).
You'll adjust, just like everyone else. Also, you may find someone who makes your stay seem more pleasant. A significant other, or perhaps a really good friend could completely change your world, and you may wake up to find that home is wherever they are.

I can empathize with you. I totally miss my family and friends (in the Philippines). In my case, it's because I'm working here in the U.S. on a work visa as a teacher. I was just gone for a year, and I'm already homesick. I can't wait for the summer break in June so that I could go home for a vacation. I know it's really difficult. I have somehow gotten used to the way of life here (not bad, really), but I would surely be glad to hang out with my family and friends back home.
