Which do you prefer between work on your own or work with under another. In other word, do you want to run your own business and become boss, or you just love to work with company. Please tell me why :)
Someday i will run my own business. I think that's the only way i can become a boss which i can create my own rules, my own working hour, everything i just have to decide. Right now i'm a government servant and love to look opportunity for intrepreneurship.

I love what I do. I only have one boss which is the owner and he pretty much just leaves me alone. I get my job done and I come and go when I please as long as my work is done. I could not work with a big company for they have to many rules and with children it is very hard to stick to a 9 to 5 job. I have found the perfect fit for me and wouldn't change it. One day I will just work at home but for now it works out well.

I do accounting and HR work which offers me flexabilty. I can do most of it from home which cuts down on my hours at work. I can transfer almost anything between my labtop and desktop at work. I love it and the owner is great.

Conventional wisdom says... if you have a registered business, a store or something like that. You are running a business.
Unconventional wisdom says... if a person decides to sell his time, knowledge and effort to the employer. He is also running his own business.
A difference in the way you think makes you an employee or an employer.
I am and will remain an employer rather than an employee. I am not really given a choice, based on my resume, I can't get a job as an employee.
However it's weird people will accept it if I am merely offering my services to them as opposed to being a member of their organization.
Opportunity? Got plenty, got none, they are everywhere. Just change your paradigm.

I never thought like that my friend, somehow i think you are right. But if we consider give service to another, it still called employee right, so the paradigm just make us work hard and give full our potential in work. Anyway it's a good thought here my friend.

:) I'm goverment servant, so you're right. Right now, i don't know how to make a choice because i don't have any, but have to work under her who supervise everything about my reputation and so on. So i tend to be good employee :)

You're welcomed, my good neighbour. As mentioned it's a matter of pardigm.
As a freelancer/contract staff, I take up projects... so I am an "employee" within the duration. Sometimes the project is too big for me to handle, and I hire a few people to help me out. Am I an employee or an empolyer? :D
I forgot to mention, it's a matter of choice... if you don't like to work for whichever clients you are serving. Change them, you can be your own EMPLOYEE and work for yourself.
My definition of Boss is someone who pays my salary. I think in your case, the taxpayers are the bosses.

We must all set our determination to be bosses and not forever being employees. If someone can be your boss, why can't you be someone else's boss?
I have decided that I am going to run my own businesses. I will be my own boss to decide my effort, time, etc.

I would love to find something where I could be my own boss but also don't want to have to run a buisness as I don't think I have the smarts or ambitions to be able to do this . I would prefer to be able to do something that was a one person buisness where I was the boss but also the only employee . Don't think this is going to happen though as I have no idea's of what I would like to do . I know I would like to do something in photography but just have no idea how to go about doing it .

I think if you give some effort on finding more information about that, will get the idea how to run it my friend. At least you have the big picture about what you're going to do, the matter right now is don't know where to start. So i think the best move you can make is begin with find the information. I too collecting information for my own goods.

I've been an employee for almost four years running.
I've been an Administrative Assistant for almost one year but then I looked for a better compensation. I applied to different companies and hired but I dont want the salary or compensation and the benefits.
I would be almost three years now in my previous job as a Document Specialist. Here we process legal documents, encode, edit and prepare some powerpoint presentation. At first, I like this job but after a year, I started to think and look for another job. Its really hard to find a better job than what I have up to now. Well, the compensation and benefits here are above average the minimum wage.
I think I will just have to apply abroad, where they pay better compensation, like Canada.
I tried applying for Middle East but the minimum wage is not very pleasing. The offer is not satisfying, so I guess I have to wait for awhile until they offer something good I guess.

I think I would work first in a company right after graduating. This will give me some idea what the real world is all about and to gain some experience. Then after a year or two, I will be my own boss. I will create my own business so I can earn more. I will no longer worry about being scolded but having a business will surely be challenging for me.

It's very challenging and high risk too. It is a business way for taking such a risk. You think to become an employee after graduating is a good thought because you can gain a lots of thing such as experience, information and buddies for your own goods later. It really help you somehow.

I've been both and they both have advantages. Don't think you can make your own rules though as the boss. The boss lives by rules too, those of the customer. Boss's often have to make hard decisions like firing people. It's also up to the boss to make sure all the employees get paid first. Lots of stress being a boss.
All of that said though, if you can work hard and tolerate all of that, working for yourself is the best way to make a lot of money.

Well just like you I am currently working in the public sector, working for other people, but one day I would like to work for myself. I think there are benefits of working for another organisation in that you have a guaranteed salary each month and other benefits like paid holiday, pension scheme etc. however I find that all too often I come across people that don't genuinely care about the organisation that they work for, and that is true of the management too, there seemes to be too much by way of doing things to better themselves rather than to improve the service we are there to provide, and I think that if I worked for myself I would be able to have much greater passion for what it is I was doing and wouldn't have to keep answering to people that think they are better than me.

I could afford it, I would also to work on my own. Generally, I don't like to be told what type of tasks to do. So being on my own will allow me to play with different ideas and projects. Also, it is cool to be able to set my own hours. Though, working independently generally implies much longer working hours.

Being and employee and an employer has its own advantages and disadvantages. All this put into consideration, I still opt to be my own boss or run my own business. Of course, you work at your own pace, make your own decisions, no superiors to answer to. Only yourself to blame when things go wrong.

i prefer to be an employer as im doing now, as then im able to do the things that i like.. though i must say it's not necessarily easier. it takes lots of thinking, planning and execution too.
i believe it's passion on what we are doing is more important.. and that may lead us to be employers or employees.
warmest regards

I enjoy being my own boss, and for the past 3 yrs I have enjoyed it. I also helped my hubby in his own business, but he is someone who expects his employees and contractors to do things he doesn't want to do. The best manager I ever had would roll up her sleeves and work alongside the rest of us. I am unemployed right now, and hubby just started a new job. I have to remind him he is NOT my boss anymore. When I did my own job for 3 yrs, I could pick and chose which jobs I wanted to do and I loved it!

I think it takes a very special type of person to run their own business.
Personally, I'm glad I never tried it. There are just so many headaches that go along with it. Also, I always hear horror stories about business owners who never get a chance to take a vacation. Or perhaps they can never find good help.
I have worked for the same company for 38 years and don't regret it at all.
I love having all my benefits paid and especially the 7 weeks holidays with pay that I get every single year. I don't think many business owners get that.

What do you mean by 7 weeks holiday and being paid my friend, what is your occupation? I think in private sector don't have paid holiday. Or do you mean the total of weekend for a year :)

employer, of course, this way, I can be the boss of myself. I hate being told what to do, I want to be the one who tells everyone what to do. And although my income won't be fixed if I'm an employer, and I'll have many troubles in managing people, but it's much better than being an employee.

I prefer to become to be an employer which have my own business because I can't working under another people for a long time. I would like to be independent, want to feel peace and calm with my own business and decision and also I can help another people which need with my own money. If we have a lot of money, it will make more money (Robert Kiyosaki)without our fhisycall but our brain.Hopefully the Almighty God will accept my pray.

I've been an employee for both private and government sectors for the past 3 years. Working for someone is fine with me, as long as i get along with people i work with.
If i have my way, I want to build my own business and not work for other people anymore. I would love to have a flexible time not bounded by 8am-5pm rules and i would really want to make my dream come true of owning a restaurant.

both have it's own advantages and disadvantages, i think you should make a list of the pros and cons so you'll know and decide which one is best for you. for example if you're an employee - the advantage of that is you have a regular income and benefits every employee enjoys. the disadvantage of that is you have a boss and you don't handle your own time.
as to an employer or an entrepreneur - the advantage is that you are the boss and you handle your time in your own convenience. the disadvantage of that are the expenses or the challenges of budgeting your money that you will divide among your employees, office expenses, and other miscellaneous expenses.
everyone wants to be a boss of their own but you just have to know the challenges you are going to face in each field,
good luck and i hope i was able to give you an idea about it.

I think generally I'm much happier being an employee rather than an employer. It's much less hassle to let someone above worry about paying employees salaries and taxes and insurance contributions and worrying about strategic issues and where the next big deal is coming from.
If I were ever to run my own business I wouldn't want to have staff working for me, I'd rather be self-employed than anything else, so I could run the business myself and have it so that there's enough income for me to live on and make some profit. I guess I'd like to be able to write full time from home but currently it's not an option. I'm much happier working for someone else and because I'm enjoying my job thoroughly, I'm in no hurry to go self-employed! :)

In my opinion, I prefer to work under someone for a predetermined period of time, as this allows me time to adapt and study the industry I'm in.
Once I have gather enough data / knowledge I need, I'll resign and start out on my own. It's better to know your risks then to do things blindly, especially when you're in singapore, such a small market we have here that service quality and customer trusts must be high on the list.
