Do we learn by our mistakes or do we just plod on ?

Do you think we learn by our mistakes or do we just plod on and do the same things day In and and day out . I hope not , If you want to learn how not to well read on my friends
One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a
well. The animal cried piteously
for hours as the farmer tried to figure out
what to do. Finally he decided
the animal was old and the well needed to be
covered up anyway, it just
wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey.
He invited all his neighbors to come over and
help him. They all grabbed a
shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well.
At first, the donkey realized
what was happening and cried horribly. Then,
to every one's amazement, he
quieted down.
A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally
looked down the well and was
astonished at what he saw. With every shovel
of dirt that hit his back,
the donkey was doing something amazing. He
would shake it off and take a
step up.
As the farmer's neighbors continued to shovel
dirt on top of the animal, he
would shake it off and take a step up. Pretty
soon, everyone was amazed as
the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well
and trotted off!
Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds
of dirt. The trick to getting
out of the well is to shake it off and take a
step up. Each of our troubles
is a stepping stone. We can get out of the
deepest wells just by not
stopping, never giving up! Shake it off and
take a step up!

Talk about me being as daft as a brush, I was sad for the poor donkey! But there was a happy ending! If you can learn by your mistakes which I frequently DON'T do then you can get like the donkey a happy ending! Mistakes are or should be experiences to help our journey in life! So we are wise for the next time, ready, willing and waiting to take the next challenge! It's like falling of a bike, getting up and getting straight back onto the bike! Definitely a moral in there my friend. I just wish I could accept my past mistakes and move on without wasting time dwelling!

hey hon you really hit a nerve there! Forever telling my eldest about repeating the same mistakes time and again but after reading the great story I realise I probably fall into the same trap - I'm gonna try and shake it off and take a step (or a hobble!) up more often x

This is very good and so true. 3 years ago I nearly let it bury me , I just did not want to carry on but then I did. But I do wish I would have had this to read then as I think it would have opened my eyes earlier then it did.

That is so very true.Life is the biggest teacher.Everyone commits mistakes,the one who learns from the mistake is a true human being.
We should always look at the positive aspect of life and continue living and trying.

That was such a wonderful story weemam, I had read it before, so thanks for helping me recall it. We surely can learn a lot from this story, its simple but hard to follow. We often let troubles bog us down in day to day life and never realize the solution lies in the problem itself!

well.... i first of all would like to congratulate you for such a lovely incident.... a lively example....of some of the life's best incidents...that may turn the things up and down....
And as for the topic concerned..... it is all but the wosdom of an individual;.... he may learn the things the first time itself, he commited those mistkes..... and he may even repeat the same thin over 50 times and still dont understand what is he doing....it may happen boh side sides...
TO be very frank, many a tims even I dunt realsie all my mistakes in the very first times...and that is enough to prove that I am a human.... but whenevr I do, I am the first one to realise it, to apologize for it...and start working on it,,, so that I dont repeat it...
but really liked ur words.... u r therefore RATED!!!

Well it has been said - "Those who do not remember their mistakes are doomed to repeat them". Been my experience to remember my mistakes....mainly because I felt follish enough the first time around and didn't WANT to repeat them. I try to "lock away" in the back of my mind the mistakes I have made - that way a little warning bell goes off when I start to do the same thing again lol. Works for me anyway.

I have a story hope I get it right, A man was walking down a road and fell in a big hole. he yelled until some help arrived and they helped him out. Next week the same man is walking down the same road and falls into the same hole. and this time he yells and yells for hours , finally some one helps him out, the next week the same man, same road same hole, again he falls in, but this time he had his own shovel, got himself out, next week same man different road, no hole. We do learn from our mistakes just takes some of us longer than others. I take every day as a lesson to learn, and oh yes I try to avoid big holes.

I think it depends on the sort of person you are, some people just go through life and whatever mistakes are made are just accepted and ignored, basically forgotten about. Personally I like to think that I try to learn from my mistakes, it's natural and perfectly normal to make mistakes, obviously you don't set out to make them, but to me, it's important to think afterwards why something went wrong and what I can do to prevent it happening again, or at least to lessen the risks of it happening again. But in so doing, try not to dwell on the mistake too much otherwise it's hard to move on.

That is an inspirational story I like to think I've learned from my mistakes and the bad things happening in my life have made me stronger. I'll have to be like that donkey and start taking steps up when life shovels dirt on me.

Hi a nice one in there yar.. nt all people learn from their mistakes... a mistake s an experiense tat can only be experienced.. if v learn 4m it , tat ll definitely do us a good deal.. i dnt beleive in crying abt d past.. take all d good 4m it and leave d rest.. tats me.. bt sometimes i do repeat ..human tendency! hope i dnt keep repeating them! u definitely thought or rather reminded me a good moral yar.. have a gr8 day .. keep smiling always

Yeah its very strong thing if we commit a mistake and learn from it. the mistake will be remembered life long when ever we try to do the same thing

Learning from our mistakes is a part of growing up.
They key to learning from the mistakes you make is realizing that you made a mistake.Alot of people don't realize the mistakes they have made to learn from.
That's where commen sense comes into play.
Usually if you have good commen sense then you will learn from the mistakes you made because you will realize and admit that you did in fact make a mistake.

I think I do learn by my mistakes but it certainly depends upon you how do you take your mistakes. Mistakes give us a good lesson to follow if you are learning from it.

I think mistakes are the stairs which lead us to the doors of SUCCESS. its human who learn from the mistakes. the effects of mistakes are not pleasing and noone wants unpleasant things so people try not to repeat those mistakes. Thats what learning is!!!!!!!
