I called around trying to get a dog,a large purebred dog.And each owner/breeder asked me why did I want one of these dogs.I said for a pet.And maybe breed it and have more to love.Probably only once, cause one time will give me enough puppies. They said no one breeder wants someone to buy thier dogs and them be bred. I was sort of shocked.I felt like this was a secret society where you had to be something important like a show dog person or something. They asked me what kind of living conditions I would have it in, and I told them I live on a big farm, and they would be outside, and have a large kennel house to live in when not lose running around with us on the farm. They acted like I said oh,we live in a card-board box. I was hurt, and then they hit me with 800 buck or 1500.00 bucks.I said ok.I was willing to buy but not from people who acted like they was selling to a science lab or something.I can understand wanting to know where your babies go,and if they will be loved and cared for and know how will they live, but if your going to give them the good life, why does the owners act like that? I have laughed and said "when I win the lottery I will go buy a bunch and do the shows and all, and hold my nose up in the air to them." But oh well. Have you ever had someone act or treat you like that over a pet?

Yes, most dog breeders want you to sign a contract stating that you will not breed the pup you buy from them. I think the main reasons is because they dont want overbreeding to happen....and also they dont want you competing with them...LOL. But the main concern is seriously the puppymill overbreeding idea. Too many people purchase dogs, breed them, breed them, breed them, until the dog is worn out and the pups are not bred up to standard. This causes overpopulation of the breed and unhealthy pups. In order to properly breed puppies I believe you need to be registerd with one or more of the "dog clubs." The puppies must all meet standards and be registered also.
Pure breds are quite often high in $$. Have you considered checking out the humane society or SPCA?? There are tons of dogs and puppies (yes, even some pure bred) that are looking for loving homes, and are much more affordable. Sometims the mix breeds are a better bet than a pure bred. Lots of pure breeds can have health issues and mixed breeds tend to ween those issues out. They make great pets and companions. Good luck on your search.
