Being a Perfectionist

I have been told many times that I am a perfectionist. At first, I used to take those remarks as compliments. After all, trying to provide quality, put your favorite task here, is a good thing. Then, I discovered that being a perfectionist is not a quality at all. Is it really a good thing to spend days meditating on an idea? Asking yourself if it is worth it? Balancing the pros and the cons of it? Some other people think that perfectionism rhymes with laziness. Are you a perfectionist yourself? Do you think that perfectionists are people who are perpetually seeking for quality? Or, do you just think that perfectionists are just a bunch of lazy people?

Being a perfectionist is good sometime. It creates trouble when expect we the same from others which may or may not be possible .It can cause harassment to u and other also when one is unable to motivate people. On the same time a perfectionist will not start any work until he is convinced about it . So when it takes long time to arrive at any conclusion then it becomes laziness. If one is a perfectionist then he should show the quality according to the demands of the situation.

I wouldn't worry about other people having a problem with you being a perfectionist, I think it's lazy people who don't take care in their work that criticise those who are perfectionists. Are you guessing so far from my post that I'm considered to be a perfectionist too? :) So? I am and so what? I believe in taking care with my work and checking it to ensure it is correct before putting out there for feedback from others. It might not always be 100% perfect, after all, no matter how hard you check something, there's sometimes an error which someone else will spot straight away that you might not have seen even if you checked it a dozen times. Don't stress about it. Us perfectionists have a tendency to stress about being perfectionist, it's the nature of the job LOL By the "perfection" doesn't doesn't even remotely rhyme with "laziness" hun! x

I am also a perfectionist, but this is the first time that I hear that it could be mistaken for laziness. People usually tell me that I'm simply being a pain in the backside, but no one ever called me lazy. I simply believe that if something needs to be done, it should be done to the best of one's ability. Otherwise, there's no point. But, hey, that's just me! ;)

I think it depends on what you are trying to do. Some things require perfection while others don't. If you put off doing things becasue you can't get the perfection you think you want, then that might be lazyiness. I think perfection and quality can be two different ideas. You can still have high quality without total perfection, I think. And if something seems perfect to you, it might not be good quality. But according to your standards, it is perfection and that is what matters.

For me, a perfectionist is a person who always strive completeness in everything he does. A completely satisfying product in all of one's endeavor is excellent to behold. I do not see anything wrong with that. In order to achieve perfection in everything we do, we have to pour in so much efforts. The efforts may be in the form of physical and mental efforts and money poured in. I believe a perfectionist always work hard to achieve his perfect produce and thus, lazyness cannot creep into the picture. Others may tantamount the perfectionist's taking some aching time to produce something as lazyness. But we will never agree with them in this perspective. Time used wisely is never time wasted.

We are living in a world where we are evaluated based on our throughput, so sometimes, perfectionists might look like aliens in this world. Thanks for your valuable contribution.

I myself have been called a perfectionist..an obsessive compulsive perfectionist at that. And no, i don't consider myself lazy nor other people around me. Instead, they view me as a workaholic. Because even after I finish a job, i still tinker with it, optimizing all details I feel needs to be improved. But I do this only after I have finished 'the basics'. With regards to ideas, I implement everything one at a given time. Then if i feel that there's more to it, i delve into it further. If not, i sack it. Thus, a perfectionist is one who goes after quality.

I have a little bit of a perfectionist in me, and I believe this is because I strive for quality in certain areas of my life. For example, I love to draw and do all kinds of crafty things, but I notice myself getting frustrated so often when I am doing them. This is because if my work does not come out perfectly, I get upset and continue erasing or getting rid of my mistake until it is perfect. The same goes with sports. I love sports of all kinds, and I have become quite skilled at most, but I believe this is partly due to my need to be a perfectionist sometimes. I do not like to give up on something until I know I have done my best work, and this applies to sports as well. I like to perfect my moves and skills at each sport I play. In a way, I think perfectionism makes me a more successful person than others who do not put as much effort into their work and activities, but I do believe it can also have a negative impact on people, especially those who take it too far. Those who try to be perfect all the time are most likely exhausted and worn out, both physically and mentally, from all the effort they put into everything. Think about it in terms of a school project. Most people aim for an A, so they put a decent amount of effort into their work and hand it in when they feel pretty satisfied with the product. It is stressful enough for a normal person to follow all the instructions from the teacher, make sure they did not leave anything out, and check that everything looks neat, etc. Now take a perfectionist. All this stress is multiplied because they need to check multiple times to make assure that each line is perfectly straight, all grammar is tip-top, and everything looks exceptional. If not, they fix it, and then fix it again, until it is PERFECT. By the end, they are worn out and frustrated because it took them so long to do and fix everything. That's what makes me wonder if being a perfectionist is even worth it. Sure, you will be great at everything you do and will be at the top all the time, but what kind of life is that anyway? If you always set the bar extremely high for yourself, you will live a life of pure stress. I believe in striving for the best and working hard in life, but not to the point of complete frustration. Sometimes you just have to do a semi-good job and accept that you will not always be perfect, but that people will still perceive you as a hard worker for putting a decent amount of effort in anyway. You will live a happier and more worthwhile life in the end. What's a life without some mistakes anyway?

For me perfectionist are those people seeking for Quality. They want everything to be right in the first time in a right place. I'm against on what you said, that perfectionism rhymes with laziness.

I am also a perfectionist and I think for me it is a good. I try to be perfect in everything that I do. It does drive some people crazy, but it works for me. Because I think that I never really achieve perfection that I believe is what keeps me going and going. It makes me strive to do better each and every time. It definitely works for me.

I don't think I'm much into details so I guess I'm not a perfectionist. I used to be and I learned that being perfectionist is only good if those who work with you are also perfectionists, or else they will get tired of you and make a plot against you. After that I learn to accept that nobody is perfect not even my self, and I find that it's easier to live like that. I know for sure perfectionists are not lazy people but they could be very intolerant and selfish.

It is highly impossible to be perfect. You know the word perfect in English does not really have a comparative and a superlative and therefore there cannot be usages such as more perfect and most perfect. Perfect means 100%

I don't think that perfectionists are actually lazy people. You will just appear lazy for other people if you never get to do anything at all because you're spending too much time contemplating on how to perfect a particular task. I think that perfectionism is more of a good quality than bad. It's just a matter of how you maximize yourself, if ever you possess that certain quality. Just don't be too competitive because it really gets to the nerves sometimes. Just imagine if people keep on trying to make everybody's situation perfect for him or her, then the world would be, well, perfect!
