Pneumonia means that there is an infection or inflammation in the lung tissue. It can be caused by a lot of different micro-organisms - viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites that are too small to see - but it can also be caused by corrosive chemicals breathed into the stomach or toxic gases from a fire. In order to make sure it is pneumonia, and to find out if it is the serious form, the patient will often be directed to their local hospital where some X-ray pictures of the lungs will be taken to see how bad the condition is. If the condition is severe, they will probably be admitted to hospital for treatment. The micro-organism will be grown from your phlegm or your blood to find out what it is and decide the best course of treatment to take.

Hi, I'm currently under medications for my pneumonia. I'm taking antibiotics too. I really got scared to my wits, because at the onset, I was gasping for breath as if there are ten hollow blocks on my chest. When I wake up in the morning, a phlegm would come out of me. But let us be positive on this. I don't think pneumonia is a killer disease unless you really get so careless as to refrain from taking medicines. We'll get over it, I'm sure. Stay positive.

I had it in grade 6 and the only good thing about it was that I missed a lot of school, hehe. But yeah, it was horrible. I was coughing up blood, my chest and throat hurt so badly, I felt so groggy and my nose wouldn't stop running, yet it felt so plugged.
