Uniforms at work - would you be happy?

Well, I've recently started a new job. In this new job, they're giving us uniforms. They're pretty ugly, actually. But at least they're paying for them! I wouldn't buy them! (Maybe that's why they're paying! Too ugly for employees to pay?! lol.) So they're not making us wear them. They're providing uniforms, and it's up to us to decide if we would ummm.... like?... to wear them. lol. Would you be happy wearing them? Or would you prefer to wear your own clothes to work? Alternatively, would you wear your own clothes getting to work (to save yourself from public humiliation) before changing into the uniform?

I'm for a uniform. Firstly it separates work from the rest of your life. Secondly you don't have to worry about what you are going to wear to work every day. Thirdly you can't blame the workplace for ruining your own good clothes. If the clothes were totally gross as you suggest, two things. Either do as you say, change at work. Or tell the powers that be that perhaps the uniforms need an upgrade. Goodluck with the last suggestion!

You make a few very good points. I've never worn a uniform to work, so I didn't consider that it might help me separate work and fun. And yes, whilst I haven't ruined any clothes in the past whilst at work, it could happen. And yes, I'd be very upset if some of my clothes were ruined at work! I think I have buckley's chance in changing the uniform! lol. Especially since they only ordered the uniforms a couple of weeks ago!

Thanks littlemoo. Hmmmmm, sounds like change at work seems your best course, and then get on the design team for the next uniform production! lol.

Actually there are a lot of benefits of wearing a uniform. You dont have to buy clothes to wear to work so you will save money on clothes. If they are ugly at least everyone will be wearing the same thing. So I would wear it and yes you can wear something to work and then change in to it.

Another excellent point! I don't have to fork out for clothes to wear to work! Hmmm... are all talking me into it! I don't think I could bear wearing it to work, especially not the days I have to travel by train! I think I'll just have to get changed when I arrive at work! (Besides, it's much better infection control that way... :D) Thanks, everyone!

Well, they're giving us the option... so that's why the question. I haven't figured out if I should go with it, or not!

I work in healthcare so I always have to wear scrubs at work. actually don't mind this at all. If we were able to wear our own clothes I knowI wouldn't. Some days I get stuff on my uniform that would ruin my regular clothes. I think my scrubs are a lot moe comfortable than street clothes too.

Same. They'll be scrubs, of sorts. Well, they're scrubs, but most of my colleagues wear the top, and not the pants, or no part of it... or whatever they seem to manage to grab in the morning. And we're not in theatre every day... maybe once a week, or once a fortnight. That's why we're not obliged to wear them. It's up to us wether we want to wear them every day, or just theatre days. Are they really that comfortable?! Hmmm... I'll have to see what they're like to work in before I write them off entirely, huh?

I think we are suppoed to have them at our work, i think we ahve to wear them, the women at least, but as i'm on a tempt to perm it doesn't affect me. Pesonally i find i have so much trouble trying to find shirts that fit me properly (i have big boobs so most just gape), as well as suit jackets (again,to find a jacket that fit my boobs means i have to go up at least two sizes, but then the shoudler etc are too big), and even trousers (i'm in between sizes at the moment!) is just impossible, so there's no way that if they provide me with a uniform that any of it wil fit. Which will mean i'll feel self-concious and be uncomfortable and thus not happy to do my job. But hey, i'll cross that bridge if/when i get to it! I'd rather not have a uniform, i'm only an administrator stuck in an office all day anyway so i don't even need one!
