Yesterday I began taking the medication Chantix. It is supposed to aid people who want to stop smoking. For the first three days I'm to take one .5mg tablet in the morning after a meal. Then beginning the fourth day, I'm to take one .5mg tablet in the morning and one .5mg tablet in the evening. On the eighth day I am to begin taking two 1mg tablets per day, one in the morning and one in the evening. The medication is taken for a week before the "target date." Stopping smoking on the target date should be easier with Chantix. Chantix works in two ways. It works on the nicotine receptors in the smoker's brain. With Chantix, nicotine does not combine with the receptors. Chantix also stimulates the brain to release small quantities of Dopamine, much like the brain's reaction to inhaled nicotine, thus easing the usual withdrawal symptoms. People using Chantix stopped smoking 44% of the time, compared with Zyban's 22%.
