Game Shows---Old and New.....

Every now and then I will watch games shows on television...I think one of the funniest, interesting game shows they have out now is the one that comes on FOX, right after American Idol is "Are you Smarter than a Fifth Grader" I have to admit, some of those questions are hard, but it's sooo funny to see the adults on there play the game... That's about the only game show I really watch, because it's cute and interesting at the same time... Now if I go back in time, when I was younger, I use to watch tons of game shows..They always came on and they were so funny...Like my favorite all-time game show was "The Newlywed Game"..Those were the days and to see that now on Nick at Nite, it's like man the way we dressed back then..lol Some of my other favorites was, Family Feud, (It was the best at the game ever..and Richard Dawson love kissing the ladies...lol), Hollywood Squares, The Price is Right, (Gotta love Bob, I remember him with dark hair) Wheel of Fortune (Vanna, changed throughout the years huh..), Let's Make a Deal (My great grandma loved that show, I had no choice but to watch it..lol), The game shows are so different now than back then, they use to be real funny and not so serious as they are now... Do you have any game shows today you enjoy watching, and what were some of those classics you just had to watch?

Unfortunalty ...we don't have FOX or CBS or other nice channels like those here. Mostly,we are watching some boring stuff...with a creepy humor..(sigh).There is nothing I could possibly watch with pleasure at my TV.Except Animal Planet :))But they don't play Family Feud on that one :|

I like to watch a few game shows from time to time. I watch Family Feud, Price is Right, and Wheel of Fortune. There's a game show on a different channel that's called Cash Cab. I think it's on A+E or something. But it's really good. I haven't seen Are you Smarter than a Fifth Grader but I'm sure that's hilarious. Oh and I forgot to add Deal or No Deal. Today game shows are all about the money not the fun in winning it.

Cash Cab was good, too! I haven't seen any new episodes for a while so not sure if they discontinued it or not? I wish they didn't show re-runs so often!

We've watched that new one two. The questions are really hard. My husband thinks he's really smart and he even got them wrong. My favorite old classics are Family Feud(Richard Dawson one), Price is right, Name that Tune, Let's Make a Deal, and Match Game.

I'm going to agree and disagree. LOL! Game shows are more serious today because there is a heck of a lot more money at stake than there was in the good old days. But I also think the reason the new game shows are making it is because they hire comedians to host the shows. Deal or No Deal has Howie Mandel; 1 vs 100 has Bob Saget; Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader has Jeff Foxworthy. They all make the shows. Look at one new show that didn't make it - "Show Me The Money". Who hosted that show? William Shatner. Not a funny guy. Funny because he wasn't funny. Have you seen him dance? Oy! Millionaire with Regis Philbin disappeared but Meredith Viera is still hosting the half hour version. I watch it every week night. I don't know when it is on in the U.S. or even what channel as I watch it on a local station. I do miss The Weakest Link. The original with the British woman was great and perhaps the half hour version with the guy host just couldn't reach the bar that she set. These hosts are hilarious. The contestants they get on their shows are chosen for a reason, because they have personality and will make the show interesting (which is why I was not chosen to audition for Deal or No Deal Canada LOL!) Remember Match Game? Who made that show? The panel of celebrities who were mostly comics. Family Feud and Wheel of Fortune have both been on a long time having gone through several different hosts - Family Feud started with Richard Dawson, went to Ray Comb, Louie Anderson and now Richard Karn. Though Bob Barker is not a comedian he has a personality that endears him to the public. The Price is Right will not continue with a different host now that he has retired. The show would not be the same. In a lot of cases the game has nothing to do with the success of the show.

Very very well said and I agree with you, It's not the same when the original host leave, I personal feel they make the game...Richard was my man, I loved Family Feud with him but when he left, I was like why?? Now it's really about money and ALOT of money at that... Thank you for the break down, I really enjoyed reading what you had to say..Thank you for responding

I love watching game shows as my old favorites are Wheel of Fortune, Price is Right and Family Feud. I also liked Hollywood Squares as that was funny as well as Press your Luck. The new game shows that I like is Deal or No Deal. I would love to be on that show. It is funny to see adults answering questions from grade school. Of course, kids now are learning things that we did not learn back then.

I have been watching that "Are you smarter than a fifth grader" game show and my hubby and I sit there and scream the answers out at them. LOL I used to like Supermarket Sweeps (I think that's what it was called), Wheel of forturne, Let's make a deal, The Price is Right, and Family Feud. I still watch Family Feud every once in a while with the new man and I scream out the answers to that show too. LOL

We have been watching Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader, as well! We love to watch Deal or no Deal, too. I think those are about the only game shows we watch anymore. I don't think they're as good as they used to be. I will watch Game Show Network sometimes to watch the oldies. What about Press Your Luck? I loved that one, too! NO WHAMMY!

I love game shows but I miss a lot of them because of work. I used to love the days I was home sick from school when I was little because it meant I could watch The Price Is Right. I love Jeopardy and the other trivia-style games and Lingo too (which I discovered on the Game Show Network). There was a game show for kids called Fun House that was on when I was little and I loved that too!

I wish I had the Game Show Network :(....I tried to get into Jeopardy, I have a friend that's REALLY good at that for years, I told him he should go on that game, He gets most the answers right and been watching it for YEARS...lol..
