Hi External modem is very costly in comparison to Internal dialup modem but I can't understand why. what's the major concern in terms of speed and other things that make external that much costly than internal?

In case of performance there no difference....but I think the price may be high due to it's hardware interface and it's make.

the cost has nothing to do with the speed but with the convenince involved. when using internal modem you need to open up your cpu cover and install it, but it is not so with external modems you just need to plug in the usb port and it is ready to go. and the same gose for external and internal hard drives.

there is very little speed diff from them. external is a little bit faster but in the end it all cames down wether you have a very good quality ttelephone line or not, good phone line will get you better results

Well i myself have an internal modem. To be honest I dont find any difference in performance for internal or external modems. But people say that external ones last long. But there is one advantage for an external modem, lets say that lightning striles the telephone line, in such a case the internal modem would transmit the spark to your machine and your machine is doomed. But the external modem wont allow that to happen.

There is not much of a speed difference between external and interal modems. Nowdays mostly people use internal modems because of their cheap availability. Your speed also depends on the phone line connection you have.

They should be exactly the same since the modem is just a phone/fax modem. Since the internal ones are so much cheaper and one less thing to have having around, you are better off with an internal.

There is no difference in performance between internal and external modems, and the cost is not related to that. An internal modem is a PCI card, which is protected by being inside the computer. Whereas an external modem needs to be housed in a case to avoid being damaged by touching or moisture etcetera, so the manufacturing cost is naturally higher.
