Illegal postings on Mylot, do you report them?

I recently came across a discussion started by a new member in which they were asking for the serial key to unlock Norton Antiviris 2007. We are all aware that such software piracy goes on and there are no doubt many members here using pirated copies of Windows and other programs, but asking such a question on the forum here is likely to reflect very badly on Mylot and endanger the site. I reported the discussion to Mylot in the hope of avoiding such requests becoming popular, which could lead to Mylot being closed eventually. Have you seen such posts here before, and if so did you report the member?

It would be unlikely that Mylot would be held responsible, providing of course the discussion was removed quickly. Otherwise the site could be accused of allowing this type of practice.

i haven't come across such a kind as of now, but i did report one time when the user quite blatantly copied and pasted another's discussion, he even went to extent of quoting the same quote and uploaded the same image!! the two posts happened at a very close time interval, both being my topic of interest, i could figure out easily. i was stunned at the ability to copy someone like that. immediately i reported and explained the thing to the user. later on i realised both are the same person using different posters and user name!! this was even more surprising. dear, asylum, you did the right thing and i would have done the same, had i been there in ur shoes. we just cannot afford to ruin this place at any cost. thanx so much for being a responsible user, as always.

Thank you for those kind words, and it is good to hear from so many members who are in agreement that we need to protect the site from this type of practice.

I have not actually come across one as of yet myself but if I saw one like the one you mentioned, I definitely would report it to myLot. I think it is important for us to let them know as they may need to take further action by getting law enforcement involved for such things like that. That is definitely not good for people to be passing around key codes and passwords to programs and other things. That is good that you reported it to myLot.

I hope that you do not come across any postings like this, because I would like to think that they are very rare. At least it is comforting to know that you would defend Mylot if you did encounter this situation.

I don't recall coming across a post like that on here but I would definitely report it if I saw one. I have reported a lot of posts on here that are not within the rules of the community and I will continue to do so.

I haven't seen that particular type of post, but believe me, I too would have reported it! You are so right that myLot could be endangered by that type of thing. Just as having people who go out onto the internet and copy a paragraph and come back here and start a discussion with it!!! I see that all the time and I report it. I also report copy/paste responses when I see them. If we don't keep the sight clean of copyright infringements, it could have problems!

I am pleased to see how well we agree on this point. If we wish to continue using Mylot then we need to protect it from that type of danger.

I haven't seen any discussions like that yet but if I did, I would report it. Discussions like that are inappropriate and nothing more than someone trolling the site to boost their participation level so they can be compensated. This site, and others (like Yahoo! Answers) are only as good as the individuals using the site and those that step in to help the busy moderators keep the site operating smoothly and within the boundaries of the posted guidelines. A few bad apples like the one you mentioned can spoil the whole basket if we're not careful!
