I think the reason that she gets so much attention is because of how far she has come. Being born so poor and getting to where she is today is a big accomplishment. She is respected and admired for that. I do like a lot of her shows. She is not afraid to say what she thinks and I like that.

I read an article years ago that said Oprah has the knack of asking the question and having the reaction tha the audience is having without their saying anything.
So based on that it is probably her ability to empathize and fulfill those needs of masses of women. I can't stand Oprah myself. She is probably a nice person but she really works my nerves! LOL.
I have nothing against her though. She has done wonderful things. Her TV persona isn't the type that I would have as a personal friend though.

I only watch her show once in a great while but as a person she seems pretty nice. What I like about her is even though she's such a wealthy, influencial person she also seems very approachable and she seems like she'd be easy to talk to. I also like the fact that she's helped so many people and still continues to do so.

Oprah has never really done anything for me, so I don't know if I can give you an educated answer on why she appeals to so many women. I think she tackles issues that others may be afraid to tackle. I also think she is able to gain trust from her guests and audiences, thus making it easy to open up to her.
Again, she doesn't do much for me.

Not only do I not see the appeal of Oprah, I find I'm really not that interested in most of the topics she tackles. (My friend almost goes through withdrawal pains if she doesn't get to watch "Opie", so sometimes I have to watch the show if I happen to be over at her place at 4:00 pm.) And don't get me started on that loudmouth "Dr. Phil"!
