I have never been a victim of identity theft, but I try to be very careful about personal information I give out.
Probably the best thing I ever did was buy a paper shredder.
Nothing with even my name on it goes into the garbage. Everything is shredded.
I read once that those letters from credit companies, "transfer your balance to us and save money," are an identity thief's goldmine.
Shred those things right away.

Thank you for replying. I learned the hard way about identity theft. I have been the victim of it and it isnt fun. It has taken nearly 2 years to have accounts that were opened under my name removed. It is a hard and arduous journey but it can be done.

I have a question for ironstruck
What good is a paper shredder? If you use a credit card to stay somewhere Where is the shredder.
If you stay at a motel, get a card to swipe to get in, what do you think is on there? Especially if you pay by credit card.
Or purchases online, or joining a group, or signing up for a payment processor or or or ???
