Is it torture or suffering, for a pet cat to live in an appartment?

I live on the second floor in an appartment in a very urban area. In the city. And we have a cat which has never been outside the appartment, except when visiting the veterinary. She's eight years old. It's a medium size appartment, but still, cat is an animal that needs a lot of space to move arround, and not as much as a dog. After all that time, my parrents have decided, that they will never have another cat again as it is supose to be turture for the animal to be confined in an appartment. Mind you, they are very attached to the cat as am I. I've decided, I'm gonna get myself a cat as soon as I move away. Of course they are much against it. But I think that she's very happy living the way she does and she doesen't miss the outdoor, especially 'cose she's never been out. And I don't think I'm gonna torture the cat I'll get for myself, or that it will suffer living in an appartment with me. Do you think an animal suffers if she's in a confined space all the time? And of course if it's used to being indoor all the time.

i dont think it torture.i would rather see a cat indoors instead of outside running the streets.alot of people keep there cats indoors.as long as they have room to run an play in the home.that is all they need beside love an attention an a good clean litter box an food an water.if you do decide to get a cat go to the animal shelter an adopt one.an they will already have their shots an everything else,an plus you will be saveing it from being put to sleep.because no one will adopt it.dont forget animal shelter.save- a- pet

I was actually thinking of going to a shelter. But I'll adopt only a cub. So I can socialize it correctly. And you're right, they do get shots against everything. And it can be a real money saviour aswell. I have to say, that the cat we have at the moment seems real happy, but sometimes we do get the feeling, that she can smell the freedom when being on a balcony or on a window... But I guess she'd allready go for it, if it would be that hard for her to live indoor. But I do know people who let their cats go outside and they would allways return home. But they were brought up this way. Ours wasn't.

I don't think it is torture for a cat to live in an apartment. AS long as she has room to roam around. She doesn't need as much as a dog; mine lives in my bedroom on her own desire. She likes having my bedroom to herself and not sharing with the doors. We have a medium sized house, but a few dogs as well. So I don't think the cat is tortured at all in an apartment or anything.

It depends on who you talk too onto whether its cruel or not. Everyone usually has their own opinion.
Cats are territorial by nature so it shouldn't bother them if they are inside a house. Vets usually say to keep them confined from the beginning as it's safest for the cat.
I personally would rather have a cat inside - it solves all the problems involving getting into fights with other cats, getting dieseases, avoiding traffic and neighbours who don't like them!!
Your apartment is a much safer place than being out in the world.
