What genre is your favorite? Do you ever venture outside of it?

I think most people probably have a favorite genre that they return to often - is that the case for you? If so, what is it, and who are your favorite authors in that genre?
Do you ever venture into more unfamiliar territory, or do you stick with what works?

Personally, I don't have a favorite genre I stick to. My method of book choosing is very random, and isn't based on the genre, or aurthor at all most of the time. I love reading romance, mystery, supernatural, and I've found at least one book and every other genre that I like. Even biographies!
The Donovan Legacy (by Nora Roberts) is one of my favorites, as is Birth Right (also by Nora Roberts). So, maybe I do have a favorite author. :-)

Well, basically, it's whatever my mom happens to have in her bookcase. Or if the summary they've given attracts my interest. Sometimes it's even if I just happen to like the title. I know your not supposed to judge a book by it's cover, but by gosh, I've chosen some pretty darn good books that way! :-)
My friends and I also used to have a book swap club. We would just see each other in the hallway at school, ask if we were reading a book at the moment, and if not, they'd hand you one, you'd read it, then pass it on to someone else. Eventually, it would get back to them (we would put our names on the inside cover). Most of the books were Lorlene McDaniels' books. Most of her stories are geared towards teens, but they are all really good. I haven't found one yet that I didn't like. Although, if you decide to read one, be warned that they are extremely sad.

Fantasy/Sci Fi is my favourite Genres, I chose two because I like both equally. I do, however, often venture into other genres. I enjoy reading any genre, to me its not so much the genre as the writing, if the writing is good then great, if not then forget it. As I said in another thread I have even been known to pick up a harlequin romance novel (god was that horrid writing). I am willing to read any genre though.

I absolutly love fantasy especially for childrn. P.B. Kerr writes a fantasy about two children that are from a long line of dijin. Diana Wynn Jones does a Crestromanci series. David Eddings is an adult fantasy writer that is amazing. He did a 5 book series called the Belgariad. Cornilia Funke does a couple of good one for kids too. Jenny Nimmo does a sereies about a boy going to gifted school. And of course Harry Potter books.

I used to be the very same way - I'd read absolutely anything - although lately I find myself returning to the same genres over and over. I'll actually get on a jag - read nothing but historical fiction for a while, then all chick lit for a while, just bouncing around.

I love mystery. I also love it when someone famous from a school-like setting gets kidnapped and the lowly runt rescues them.
I return to it, but venture out of it as well.

I like to read many kinds of books: historical fiction, biographies, travel journals are among my favorites, though.
I got hooked on Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series awhile back and have read all those as well. Those books are so out of my norm, but I love them.
There are just so many good books out there. I wish I spent more time reading.

Mysteries are my genre. I will read other books by certain authors are books recommended to me.Sometimes a review somet catches my interest and will read it. I read Ricochet and it is a good book. My favorite author is Patricia Cornwell she writes about Virginia and so I am familiar with the area which makes it more interesting.

I'll read just about anything that I can get my hands on. My bookcase is a study in diversity. Left to my own devices, though, I lean toward chic lit lately. When I've got a lot of things going on in my life, I find it best to read lighter books so I don't add to my own gloom.
