Personally, I know it is not a choice to be a lesbian. I was born a lesbian and I will die a lesbian. It has been scientifically proven that people are born Gay. The only choice we can make is how we live our lives, for ourselves or for society. Being born gay is no different than being born white, black, chinese, etc., etc. etc. Being Gay is not something that is taught to us, such as religion, manners or etiquette. However, intolerance, ignorance and oppression of people and beliefs that are different from "the norm" are all taught behaviors.

No I fully believe you are born gay, just like you are born black, with freckles or blind. So it should be celerbrated. Who we love should not be by law but by grace. Love is the most important thing we can share and is SHOULD availabe to everybody!

Honestly, I'm beginning to believe this is such a tired argument. I'm a lesbian. I don't believe I chose to be a lesbian, and I think most of the world would agree. I won't deny there are people who would argue, but I've been very fortunate and never really encountered those people in daily life. Truth be told, I've only ever encountered any real prejudice like that on the internet, where it's so anonymous I have a hard time caring what they think at all! Sometimes, though, I wonder... does it matter if it's a choice or not? Truthfully? Because the fact is, either we accept that people have the right to live their lives as they want to live them, or we don't. In some ways, it almost hurts the activist position to be so focused on finding an indisputable genetic link proving we're either born gay or straight the same way we can't control our race. If we're going to rely on genetics, then it seems to me we're saying if we did have a choice, we would obviously prefer not to be gay, and well... why? What's so wrong with being gay that we'd choose not to be? I've seen the position that of course no one would choose to be shunned by society, so on and so forth, but if homosexuality were not deemed a shunnable offense, and no one cared one way or the other, would we then change our tunes and say, "Yeah, it's a choice and one we're proud of! Viva la difference!" or would we still be searching for some genetic or chromosomal link so that we can frame our differences in a socially acceptable package? I just don't know that it matters. No, I don't believe I made a choice, just like I don't think a straight person makes a choice on the matter. But I don't think it matters either.

I have never thought being gay was a choice. I am straight, but have had a few gay friends through out my life, and after having watched them go through all of the struggles I can't see how anyone would choose to be gay and life with all the prejudices that come with it. I believe that you are born how you are born and that is that. There is no reason to try and change it, because you will just make yourself unhappy in the long run. I just wish our society would relax a little and be more accepting.

They don't "choose to be gay" they choose to survive. Most men and women that go in to prison straight, come out the same way. If they go in as gay or lesbian, they come out as gay or lesbian. I am not talking about movies and tv shows here. Those are not always, if seldom, the truth about prisons. They are glorified to make for good ratings.

considering yourself as gay or lesbian is also a taught behavior, Come to think of it, If you are the only lesbian or gay in this world would you rather be different? Sometimes being gay or lesbians is not someone's choice , It is the society who influenced and tolerate them for being different from "the norm". For me, why don't we get a long with the norms. if we want something we can do it no matter what So it's your choice and don't be hurt if people discriminate you. The change is in you! And the choice is yours!

Right on!! Gay people don't change. It's inborn, hardwired, like being left handed or blue eyed. IT's about attraction. I didn't choose to be attracted to men anymore than my brother did. Ignorance needs education. Get educated, Gwyn.

I couldn't agree with you more.It isn't a choice. If it were, there would be more bisexuals.it is sad that people can't understand the simple fact that it is something you are born with, like freckles or a dimples.

Very wrong. Homosexuality is being attracted to members of one's own gender. And it's an inborn trait, like being left handed.
