The rights to Stephen King's opus, the Dark Tower series were recently purchased by J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof of Lost creation fame. My question is this: the Dark Tower is arguably one of the greatest fantasy series ever written, who is competent enough to merit being cast in the lead roles? Roland? Eddie? Susannah? Jake? Flagg? etc. The only names I've heard--only in gossip, none of this is substantiated--are Hugh Laurie (of currnet House fame) for Roland (true, he's got the bombadier blues). I really don't know where I'd go, casting-wise. Any ideas?

A few years ago I would have said Haley Joel Osment as Jake. Further back than that I woudl have said Clint Eastwood as Roland. Hugh Laurie is a pretty good choice for Roland, he is roughly the right age and is certainly lanky enough. Susannah could be Jennifer Hudson or perhaps someone a little older. Eddie, maybe Jake Gyllehall. I'd like to see James Cromwell as Father Callahan again from Salem's Lot. He did that role in the version with Rob Lowe and in my opinion he rocks. I started a discussion about this too. Shoudl they do this at all though, and as a series of films or a long mini series.

I am right there with you on almost every point you've made. Clint Eastwood would have been perfect for Roland--10 years ago. And I agree with keeping Cromwell as Callahan. I like Gyllenhall fo Eddie, alot, but I'm not sure about Jennifer Hudson...I see where you're going though. I think the plan so far is to do it as a miniseries on HBO due to the violence. It's got to be at least a miniseries, I mean, it's seven fairly thick books, and certainly couldn't be done in just one movie! Thanks so much for your thoughts, I was starting to think I was the only one who read these great books!
