Hi everyone,
We are thinking of getting my 11 yr old daughter a turtle. Does anyone have any ideas on which is the best type?

I bought my sone a red eared slider two years ago. It is a very neat turtle with alot of personality. Everyone loves to watch him swim and eat when they come over to visit. I didn't realize the amount of work that would come with buying any turtle until after we bought him. I also didn't know it would be as expensive as it was to take care of. This red eared slider, Mike, had a shell that was about 6" from where his head came out to where his tail came out. We have had him for two 1/2 years and now his shell is about 11". The only thing I don't like about the experience we have had with mike is that he has gotten pretty big and seems to still be growing. If you have a tank over 50 gallons, or the plan to buy one as it grows then a red eared slider would be great.

I have three pretty turtles in my pond. They are brazilian type. I think they can be given to your daughter. But becareful, sometimes they are so fragile. So always rememmber to change the water at least once a week and keep feeding them with appropriate foods.

Well, I don't know much about turtles. Although, I did used to have one, but decided it wasn't the right pet for me. :-) According to www.allturtles.com Red Ear sliders are the most common ones. I would check out that website, because their are a ton of useful information on turtles there. Where I found out about the Red Ear Sliders was on the FAQ section. They also list a few more, though. Hope I helped!
