its a good idea not to eat for at least 1 hour before you workout. to give you energy fitness trainers advise you to eat carbohydrates, proteins and also drink lots of water. so for example you could eat some potatoes, beans, salad, spinach and cheese if you eat dairy products plus drink a couple of glasses of water and some orange juice. so you just have to leave out sugary foods and drinks and caffeine ive got some exercise tips on my blog if youre interested at http://www.blogchex.com/urbancitycrew and theres some blog reviews on sites about nutrition and exercise at my other blog at http://urbancitycrew.blogspot.com hope this helps

I tend to eat approx an hour, and hour and half before exercising, and generally make it a snack or small meal, i do like having scrambled egg on wholemeal toast, or a cereal bar, or sometimes just a banana and some juice!
This is just what i have found over a few years gives me a bit of extra energy before working out.
If i am exercising for an hour or so i just have water whilst im doing it, if the time goes any more longer than that i have some energy drink also, some kind of isotonic juice!

I tend not to eat a good couple of hours before training and probably some kind of energy drink as Barakka suggests may help you... I always struggled in the mornings, now I train in the afternoon or (more often) the evening.
I'd stay off the dairy stuff in case you're intolerant. (You can experiment to see what does or doesn't suit you). I can't eat bananas, they make me feel utterly sick. I used to follow the Eat Right For Your Type diet (based on blood group) and I found that made a huge difference to me (with the types of food it tells you to eat/avoid.)
If you train in the morning, try to have a reasonably filling breakfast but a good hour or so before you go if you can - anything oat-based should be good for energy levels (porridge made with water with honey/sultanas is a good one). Make sure you're having some fat in your diet too, I know the current health trends say to stay off it but I always used to tell if I'd cut down too much when I was at the gym...
A good fix of white meat protein may also help you... something like chicken and rice for the last meal on the day before you go..? Make sure you're not over-training, it's very easy to do.. Good luck anyway!

I usually work out in the evening, therefore I've already ate my meals for the day. I usually eat a protein or energy bar 1 to 2 hours before I work out. I'm not sure how long it takes for food to digest because I know you shouldn't eat right before a workout-but I've found eating a protein bar before I work out helps boost my energy and keeps me from feeling hungry. I hate working out when I'm hungry!
