You sound like you'd like survival books. They're nonfiction but mostly read like fiction. "Into Thin Air" by Jon Krakauer is about climbing Mt. Everest. He also wrote the critically-acclaimed "Into the Wild". "Between a Rock and a Hard Place", by Aron Ralston, alternates between the author's wilderness adventures and his ordeal getting trapped underneath a boulder in a Utah Canyon in the middle of nowhere. I've read all three and highly recommend them.
