Should children be on diets?

I have a two year old and I know that from our family history he will more than likely be overweight.
He eats 90 calorie snacks and is given vitamins daily.
I limit his sugar and is given very little caffiene. I just want to keep an eye on him so that I could possibly keep him from becoming overweight.
Is this wrong to do?

There are a lot of children these days that are overweight so it is good to keep an eye on food intake and possibly keep a pair of scales handy. There are some additives that are put in food that has some affect on some children so keeping an eye on some of the e factors is a good thing.

I dont think there is nothing wrong with keeping a close watch on what your kids eat. Its part of responsible parenting. My daughter just turned six months today and after her monthly check up, i found out that she is overweight. Her current weight is for boys of 7months. My daughter is VERY healthy and the doctor advised that since she is starting solid food, milk supplement should belessened.

I agree very much with ambiepam (2nd reply). You should always regulate your childs food and eating habits, as this will encourage him to grow up with healthy eating and exercise as a natural way of life.
I have a sister-in-law that completely forbids their 3y.o. girl from eating any sweets (candy / chocolate etc!) except on a Saturday. While I respect her for the good diet-keeping, the girl goes absolutely crazy for the stuff every weekend at her grandmothers house. You can just tell that as soon as she gets the chance, she'll be ramming as much junk as she can down her own throat.
I plan a moderate approach for my girl (still a baby now). We'll let her have a little bit of almost anything as long as the majority of her diet is fresh nutricious food and she gets plenty of exercise.
I'm sure you're doing a great job! Keep it up.

No, it is not wrong to do. You are being responsible. Unbeknownst to my family, I had PCOS and it caused me to gain weight. Now that I know I have it and will never be thin, I STILL have to be vigilant on what I eat. If my family had known earlier I could have been saved a lot of grief and trouble. Totally not their fault, since most PCOS patients are diagnosed in their early to mid-twenties.
One thing I would say. Let your song have an occasional snack or drink OFF the regular diet. If there is not flexibility, he is much more likely to sneak food not on his eating plan. You'll wonder why he is gaining weight, when secretly he'll be finding ways to circumvent any healthy foods you feed him.
But you are doing great by being aware of the problem and being proactive. A child is never too young for the parent to think about their health and long term well being.
