We here the term puppy love, and it's been around for as long as I can remember, but does anyone know the origin? My guess is that it relates to how young people love little puppies when they're young, but lose interest when the grow up. What do you think?

Puppy Love? just look at Romeo and Juliet! we all know that story. Puppy love is also for love that student can feel for his teacher(platonic).Do you remember Paul Anka's "Puppy Love"?

Sure do remember Paul Anka's Puppy Love, as well as many other of his great songs of the late 50, and early 60s. I understand what 'puppy love' means, but it's the origin of the phrase that interests me. By the way, I don't like your avatar as much as the previous one. Too much apple, not enough blond.

Oh!! mipen you have a great view about the meaning I like it. For me puppy love is a joking term used to descibe feelings or relationships between people who are considered too young to have “real” grown-up emotions it’s not the age of the people involved that separates “puppy love” from adult relationships, but the maturity of the emotion.

You're right maribel, but I was wondering how the term originated.
