"The boneless tongue,
so small and weak,
can crush and kill,"
declared the Greek.
The Persian proverb wisely saith,
"A lengthy tounge, an earthly death."
Sometimes it takes this form instead:
"Don't let your tounge, cut off your head."
While Arab sages this impart:
"The tounge's great storehouse is the heart."
From Hebrew wit, the maxim's sprung:
"Though feet should slip, don't let the tounge."
A verse from Scripture crowns the whole:
"Who keeps the tounge doth keep his soul."

I like this poem. My husband has often said from the pulpit that that is why God gave us one mouth and two ears. So we would listen more then we talk. to many times our mouth gets us in trouble. My dad always told my sister to think before she put her mouth in gear.

In Gulliver's Travel movie, there was a scene where he was stranded in an island, inhabited by humans and horses. The humans were called Yahoo, always fought with no reason, only possesed every shameful characters we display every day. The horses called Houynhmnm (if I'm not wrong) posed as the ruler of the island including Yahoo. They possesed every noble characters we have. Every time they met with each other, they would take the time to be quiet while facing each other, looking intently and thinking of what to say before finally saying anything.
I was so struck when seeing it. I should really learn to be like that Houynhmnm...=)
