I and my father are also very good friends. I share a lot of things with my father more than my mother but I am not able to share my secrets with him that i share with my best friend. So What do you think on this issue?

Yes it is, however this is not something that I would personally encourage. The reality is we are not always going to be here for our children and it might be a good idea to allow them to have a little independents. A best friend his or her age would be a much better idea.I'm not saying don't be around for your child, however you need to stay the parent and allow he or she to have plenty of best friends come in and out of their lives. They need exposure outside of the immediate home. I hope this helps you. Have a great day!

Of course I believe that is true.
Any two people can be best friends and not just family.
For father and son it is important for the son to realize that his father is from a different generation and a different train of thought.
For the father, he must realize that times change and things his son is involved with and his sons way of thinking may not be the same as his own.
I think it is a matter of flexibility, honesty and understanding when it comes to father and son relationships.
