Referral links - is it stigma or are people just mean spirited?

I am truely amazed at how so many people are put off by referral links. Are'nt you? Oh sure it means your in their downline, but is'nt it who's in yours that is more important? I've heard of how people always remove the members reference link before going to the recommended site. If they enjoy or profit from the site don't they feel any guilt? They can hardly be thankful afterwards because they've removed the means to do so. What makes me laugh the most is when they refuse to be in a downline because someone would be profiting off their efforts. So in essence, if they made $3.00, they would find the idea of the upline making 40 odd cents off them repugnant. I bet they don't bat an eye at owners, shareholders, directors etc when slogging out the working week for them. Whats your experience or view?

i am new here and I still think many people new to mylot believe that if someone refers them, that they "lose" 25% of their money.
I know now that this is not the case, but I really think this is a major problem and somehow things should be re-worded so new people understand that they are still getting full pay and the referrer is getting an "extra" 25%.
