ME!!!! I'm a big fan of balot! I'm a balot eater! I can finish up to 5 pieces of 16-day old balot. It's delicious for me. The secret of its taste lies in the vinegar. So, be sure to have a delicious vinegar and a salt when you eat one. If there is a balot-eating contest, let me know, ok?? I want to join.hehehe...

I don't know. I'd have to be pretty desperate to try it, I think. Is it boiled? How do you cook it. You do cook it don't you? I can't see myself eating it, but then I tried octopus and that wasn't too bad. I haven't tried it again, however.:-)

And a month ago I watch it in local TV that people in my country started to eat balot too. Yuck again. Even the American fear Factor too...
Poor little baby duck...

Oh my, no. I will never ever eat that. It reminds me of when my mother-in-law had to eat a complete baby bird, bones and all, because she didn't want to seem rude towards her in-laws. Afterwards she vomited, it was so horrible. This same dish is served in other countries too (she ate it in Spain).

I like it som much and eat alot of it also, especially when it's freshly cooked and hot!;)
Back when I was still in batangas staying on my uncle, we have a particular 'balut vendor' who peddles it every 2:00 in the afternoon. He's balut is still hot and watery, that we have to keep it cool for a while so we can handle it. My and my uncle could eat from up to 4 pieces each, from there on we feel a little bit nauseated but mostly felt good and full!;)

I eat it. I like the ones where the chick is small though. There are others where the chick is kinda big, that's a little nasty for me lol. It's an acquired taste though.

As in a chicken egg, or the like... with a fertilized and developing chick inside? I'd have to say no. I probaby wouldn't eat that. I'd rather make sure that fertilized eggs get to hatch, so i could eat it as a full grown chicken instead.

I only drink the juice of the balot and only when it is hot. I sometimes eat the yellow part but i truly do not want to touch the young chick. Am not really a balot fan. The chicharon that the manong sells alongside the balot basket is more appetizing for mew with lots of spicy vinegar.

that's what i wanna have, too rather than balot. the chicharon and dipping it in vinegar. yummy! you just made me crave for a chicharon! yummy!

Balut is an underdeveloped duck fetus inside an egg. I guess it's easier to say it's a chick, even though it's not a baby chicken, but a duck. I haven't eaten it but I watched my mom eat it a long time ago and she said it was delicious. Watching her eat it was enough for me LOL! Now, my mom finds it disgusting to eat.

Is it edible? I am sure it will have some curable properties, as Goat/sheeps uterus with a foetus in it is a good cure for Backaches. I have tasted Goats, long back.

i do, but i dont look at it closely because i might throw up, but if you will disregard the look and concentrate on the taste its bearable. i usually put spicy vinegar and salt on it.
