Hi girls.. This is a good topic for discussion. I like this. I got this info of glutathione when I was still a Medical Transcriptionist student. So here's the explaination. According to Theodore Hersh, M.D., Harvard graduate, Professor of Medicine of Emeritus, Emory University that Glutathione is the body's master antioxidant and best kept secret to maintaining healty." Glutathione is a small molecule made up of 3 amino acids, which exists in almost every cell of the body. However, Glutathione must be generated within the cell from its precursors before it can work effectively in the body. Glutathione as a Detoxicant - Supplemental detoxicants become necessary as our environment becomes increasingly polluted. Our food and water sources are contaminated with chemicals. One of our main defenses against pollutant is glutathione, which is present in the liver in high concentrations. Glutathione acts as a detoxifying agent by combining with undesirable substances and riding the body of them through urine and bile. Functions of Glutathione 1. Enhancing the immune system. Your body's immune activity, involving unimpeded multiplication of lymphocytes and antibody production, requires maintenance of normal levels of glutathione inside the lymphocytes. 2. Antioxidant and free radical scavenger. Glutathione plays a central protective role against the damaging effects of bacteris, viruses, pollutants and free radicals. 3. Regulator of other antioxidants. Without glutathione, other important antioxidants such as vitamins C and E cannot do their job adequately to protect your body against disease. 4.A detoxifying agent. Its major function is the detoxification of foreign chemical compounds such as carcinogens and harmful metabolites. Glutathione (GSH) can be administerd: 1. Oral (by mouth) - GSH is digetsed or broken down into its amino acid constituents and they have little effect. 2. Intravenous (by needle) - GSH has a very short half-life in the circulation. Who should not take the product? People with an allergy specifically to milk protein, (which is very rare). Note: Please that lactose intolerance is NOT a milk allergy. Also, anyone who had had an organ transplant and is receiving immunosuppressant therapy should NOT take this product unless instructed to do so by his physician or another health care professional. The immune system needs to be suppressed in order to prevent organ rejection, and this product may counteract immunosuppressant medicines such as cyclosorin.

Gluthathione is a small protein composed of three amino acids: cysteine, glutamic acid, and glycine. Nutrition researchers have regarded it as the most valuable detoxifying agent in the human body. Gluthathione has also been called the "master antioxidant" that regulates the actions of lesser antioxidants such as vitamin A and vitamin E within the body. Dietary gluthathione intake from food sources such as asparagus has been associated with protection against certain forms of cancer in addition to potent anti-viral properties. Gluthathione is also a regenerator of immune cells
