I'm really scared of this small blood-sucking worm. Once I explored a jungle with my friends, on the way suddenly I found 7 to 8 leeches moving on both of my shoes. I became panic, jumping and screaming wildly. Luckily one of my friends rushed to me and managed to get rid of these small awful worms from my shoes. I would like to share your experience.

I had some leaches on me when I was 7 years old when I went to a week camp. They used salt to get them off. That really works well.. As for how I feel about them.......EEEEWWWWWWWWWW! YUCK!

I believe I was told that salt dries them out and so they repel themselves from it. At least that was what I was told. But that could be an old wives tale. They are still icky though.

Common salt contains some impurities, chlorides of magnesium and calcium, which are deliquescent and act as drying agents. The salt itself, in crystals, could also absorb water from the leeches, I believe.

I would be very scared of leeches! Luckily we don't have them around here, but I'll never forget the scene in Stand By Me when they got leeches in their underwear! Awful!

Yup, leeches could most probably find in tropical rain forest countries so it is quite common in my place. I could imagine how awful that leeches crawling in the underwear which you had seen in Stand By Me.

I do not afraid these small little blood-sucking creature, in small quantity :) But if they come in large amount, i will definitely run away as fast as i can. Besides, there one kind of leech as big as banana, and that is quite scarry for me. I had captured one of it once, and keep it in a glass bottle, hoping it could predict the weather (like what was said in books) but it stay still for days. Finally, i gave up and release it into the drain in front of my house.

Hi friend, you better don’t scare me. Even a little blood sucking creature can make me scare and panic and what more the one as big as a banana. How horrible I could imagine if seeing large amount of leeches crawling on my shoes. Well done, having an experiment could always find out the truth. You are a good hearted guy as you released the leech into the drain but not simply threw it away.

If I am not mistaken the leeches found in the rice field looked rather bigger in sizes. So it’s normal for me to scream wildly when seeing those awful leaches crawled on my shoes as your husband did scare of leeches.

Bring some salt next time you go inside the jungle. Recently the medical science discover thak leech can help to suck out the piosonous thing etc from the body of patient. Who knows one day the awful worms may become a ueseful creature to you :)!

Ok, happylim, I will bring along with me some salt before I go for a jungle tracking. If I come across any leech I then sprinkle the salt over it. Wow, what a wonderful discovery! Those awful small creatures do help human being to cure certain illness by sucking blood at the wound.

Yikes, I hate leeches. I have not seen it on person before but the pictures are really enough for me to hate them and be afraid of them. Maybe its the way I see it on tv and movies that really sucks out blood and really stays in the body like they own it. Yuck, yuck, yuck.... Im really scared.

Really, the way the leeches move and the habit of sucking blood always make us quite scare of them. I still remember when I was a small kid I accompanied my playmates picking the rubber seed at the rubber estates, there I first come across with the awful little blood sucking creatures. They caused me panic, screamed and jumped wildly. Since then I never accompanied them to the estate again.

Your story about how leeches killed a man really scaring. Though we know that a tiny little leech could never enter our body and kill us we still quite scare of it. To me leeches looked nasty and awful with legless bodies and with their weird movement.

Hi little dear Athrun, we have the common phobia, to become frightened when seeing any leeches. So I am sure you couldn’t be my superman if I were to find any leeches moving on my feet. I will scream madly if there is any on my shoes.
