Children Who Don't Want to Grow Up??

My son is about to turn 4 and he is very insistant that he does not want a party, does not want a cake, does not want any presents and does not want to turn 4. At first he would just talk about how he didn't want his 18 month old brother to turn two. When asked why, he explained that he didn't want him to get bigger and start playing with his toys (more than he already does). But, now he has moved on to not even wanting to get bigger himself. I am trying not to push the issue and I am respecting his wish to not have a party but I have explained to him that he turns four regardless of whether or not we have a party. This is a hard concept for a three year old to understand.
Has anyone else had a similar experience with any of their children? If so, how did you handle it? How long did they continue on feeling this way?

Aww poor little guy. I haven't dealt with it. I can't even guess why he feels this way. Have you asked him exactly why he doesn't want to turn 4? Is he afraid of going to school or something? I would try to find out exactly what the issue is and then try to work from there.
Maybe if you point out the good things that will come as he gets older?
