Do you ever start posts on here just to inflate your posts? I have seen a number of posts that I wonder why they bothered at all, its not like the person who posted responded to a single reply, and the topics are sometimes so incredibly pointless such as What's your favourite colour. Why do people post these topics, and why do people respond to them. Personally I prefer to post and respond to interesting discussions. I have on occasion responded to others to inflate my number of posts, but I generally feel guilty about doing so. I mean I still respond reasonably and make sure my response is longer then just a couple of lines, but still it feels like cheating to me. Anyone else think the same?

The ones that annoy me the most are the ones that start off 'no need to reply to this discussion, I just wanted to tell you...' It's like what is the point in starting a discussion if you are actually asking that people do NOT respond!
Sometimes I think people just don't get it. You can post 100 posts that say 'i like chocolate, do you like chocolate' and earn one cent per post. Or take an extra 10 seconds and write something meaningful and get three cents per post.
Am I ranting yet?

No your not ranting at all I mostly agree with you. I personally don't mind the "no need to reply" ones as long as it is actually useful info and not some self serving crap. I agree that people should take the time to think up thoughtful posts and not just go for the hundreds of pointless posts.

Hello Myrrdin....
Those are exactly some of the types of posts that mylot wants you to report and rate negatively so they can be removed. In the do's and don'ts list you will see that mylot requests our help weeding out the garbage that needs to be removed.
Removing the crap will make it easier to find the quality discussions which will improve mylot and the time we spend here.

Since I joined I have tried to start thoughtful discussions, and encouraged other interesting discussions. There are times when I, too, wonder why so many people put up silly one word topics and now I just ignore them.

Oh I do the same, I pretty much just ignore them. I just wonder why people even bother. I feel the same about the people that just thank everyone that posts and don't actually participate in their own discussions. I don't the the point, then again I am on here because the discussions are fun and not because I think I can post enough to make the money worthwhile.

I try not to start discussions to boost my numbers. To the best of my recollection I haven't.
I see plenty who do though. I just LOVE the ones who start discussions telling us to rate people, to resolve discussions and the like and then never bother replying to anyone who has replied to them.
As far as my replying to others ... I don't give silly one word answers. I try to say at least a few lines worth. Can't always but I try.
I do think the ones who start discussions and then never do anything with them are cheating.

I think that myLot has changed a bit from the beginning, because before all discussion or about 90% of discussions were stupid ones :) like "what's your hair colour?" ecc. After some changes in rating system many people started to post interesting discussions too.
Why people are replying to those discussions? Because it's easier than thinking at a complex response and writing a more interesting reply. But i usually don't like only replying to discussions saying only "yes i do" or something.
For me something must still be changed in discussions rating, because if i start an interesting discussions, and I continue posting in my discussion, I will not get points and I will not be paid for the time spent there, so many people leaves discussions going...and don't come back to write in them!

I think that I post interesting discussions but many times I recive no answers or very few =(
I do never post discussions that demands a yes or no answer though - or yes I did - my first week here and I am fighting to get them removed =)
I agree with u that many topics are not really a discussion and should be deleted - maybe then it would cause more people to reply to mine *hehe*

I myself am guilty of starting posts in the 'favourites' category, but that was way back when I first joined. You could say it was out of desperation and also out of lack of topics..lol Well I had no idea what I was doing back then so I guess its ok. I quickly realized there were way too many of that kind going around and the more I've been on myLot, the more creative I've become. "Interesting" is definitive to each individual, what is interesting to one may not be to another. If your response is not short and irrelevant then why not? You have something to share about the question being asked, so it is fair to answer. I wouldn't consider that just for inflating my posts. In fact, if it was so, then even responding to discussion in interests would be the same, because almost every question there is about the same thing right? I would say it's neither cheating nor being unfair.

i agree with you whole-heartedly, my dear fellow Merlin reader. i prefer to respond to tpics with a purpose. Why futher another pereon's earnings when they post asking about your favorite color? What a waste of time. Talk about something controversial...something important...something people can relate to.

The way of posting also depends on where the Mylot-members live. I think that a dollarcent is not much in Europe and the United states, but it`s value is relatively high in Afrika en Asia. Mylot should introduce a sort of classification-earnings-table for postings.

I am with you regarding the pointless posts such as what is your favourte colour or do you like pizza. I respond to topics that interest me and start a discussion for the same reason. However, I don't see why it is necessary to comment on each reply that you get for your discussions. I don't understand your last point about feeling you are cheating when you respond to others. Where did I miss the point?

I agree with you, these posts bug me just as much as the recipe posts, they are simply posted for no other reason that to bump up the post count. I don't respond to them as i simply don't have enough to say, nor do i feel they are worth taking the time too respond too.

I don't remember a time when I ever responded to posts or started a discussion just to boost the number of my posts.
I generally average around 70 responses a day with the odd discussion thrown in once a week or so. I don't respond to those posts asking what my favorite color is or anything because quite frankly, who cares??
I try to make sure my discussions are interesting, or at the very least, require an answer longer than one sentence, and I try to make sure that my responses are well thought out and worth posting.

I have yet to start a discussion of my own. I have just been responding. And I only respond when I have something to say. If I don't have anything to say I don't bother. I joined because I love to chat and stuff. It gives me something to do when I am bored.

I don't think you should sacrifice intelligence or space on this site just to get more posts and money. I only post if I have something to say or have something to add to the conversation. I don't wanna be one of those really annoying people who post something like "BLUE SOCKSSSSS" in a discussion about food or something. It just makes you look dumb and isn't worth the effort.
