The Big Brothers Big Sisters Program helps children develop self worth through the experience of being understood, accepted and respected by a trusted adult. The program matches adults and children between the ages of seven to 17 years in quality mentoring relationships and has a proven reputation of achieving positive change in their lives. The focus is prevention before negative behaviour becomes destructive.
International research has found that children with a mentor were:46 per cent less likely to use illegal drugs
27 per cent less likely to use alcohol
53 per cent less likely to skip school
What is your opinion??

I am not sure just how long they have been around but they have helped many kids to learn values and just to have someone to talk to ... The stats about how they have helped the kids is so cool to see ...can you imagine being a Big Brother or Sister and seeing those stats ...boy that would make your heart sing to think that you had a part in helping those kids... I hope they grow and stay around forever we sure need them for the kids today ...

I think the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program is excellent and would certainly believe these figures. I attemted to sign my son up for the Big Brothers in our area many years ago - I was told there was 4-5 year waiting list. There was a shortage of big brothers but a ton of little brothers. There seem to be more women willing or able to volunteer than men.
