Whippets

I just found this group that is about whippets. Just wondering how many of you in this group have a whippet, and why you joined this group. I have one whippet at the moment, along with a Sheltie. I grew with at least one or more whippets in our home. My parents used to breed and show them so most of the time we had at least 3-5 of them, and when puppies came along that meant at least another 3-5 for a little while. I've always loved the gentle loving ways of the whippets, and the fact that they really require very little care...and lots of love. How about you?

My partner and I have one whippet named Wysiwyg (What You See Is What You Get, pronounced wizzy-wig), and a chocolate lab named Java. Since we got Wizzy, I have been totally smitten with whippets. And all breeds of sighthounds, actually. They're such terrific dogs. Low maintenance and quirky and sweet. When we moved a few months ago, to care for my partner's parents, they had a Sheltie. Wizzy and he were best friends. She thought he hung the moon, you know? But unfortunately we lost him very suddenly around Christmas. Wizzy was as heartbroken as everyone else, which is part of whey we got Java. Wizzy and Java are totally the odd couple.

Hi JennyLeah, Nice to meet you. Hope you'll put up some pics of your dogs sometime. Very different name, but I love it. I've always found Whippets to be very gentle and loving dogs and they seem to get along with most anyone. Very sorry to hear of the loss of your Sheltie. It's always so hard when you lose a beloved pet, and hard on the other animals that have been close to them. Hope Wizzy and Java will be happy together. My whippet Honey is a golden fawn colour, thus the reason for her name. She will be 9 years old this coming summer.
