I have reason to believe that I may be infected with an HIV virus. My question is twofold: Firstly, does anyone know how the actual test is administered? Is it painful? The second part is what is in fact more important. My question is do you think I should take the test? Would you really want to know? What if I promised to take every precaution in the future (so as not to spread) but in reality, this is certainly a life-altering dose of in formation. Anyone who has tested positive, has the knowledge changed your lifestyle at all? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The test is just a blood test so is not painful. It is better to know as there is such good medicines these days that you can be healthy and well for many years. If you don't get diagnosed then you would not have access to this treatment and that would not be good for you at all. You might not have it once you are tested but if you don't go for the test you will always be worried that yuo do have it. Either way it is better to take precautions, be brave and get tested. Good luck.
