At the beginning of the year (literally January 1, 2007) I lost my wallet in the airport on my way home from a weekend trip. I called and left several messages with the airport and airline and no luck, I called my bank and canceled my bank card and checks and had a new card sent to me. Also started the process to get my drivers license (which I really didn't want to get) Now 3 months later, I get a letter from the police department in Phoenix, AZ where I lost my wallet and they said they had the wallet and I had until April 1 to claim it. Wow...I would have NEVER thought to call the police department and ask if one had been turned in! I just wrote it off and lost property and moved on. Now that I know that it's there there and the money is in, I'm trying to get it back. Only sucky thing is that I won't be back to AZ until later in April (after the deadline to claim my wallet) so now I'm waiting to see if I friend of mine can get it for me and send it back to me. Anyone have similar experience? Lost something then got it back months later? How'd you feel during everything?

Wow, you're very lucky! And the money's still there? If they can't keep it later than april, see if you can fax them the information (the letter & photo id) and have them send the wallet to you. Whoever returned it was such a nice person! I don't think I've ever lost something and had it returned, but if I had lost my wallet, I would be so relieved to get it back.

when I call tomorrow I'm going to see if I have any other options (other than going there personally or having someone go on my behalf). I hope there is, but my parents don't think so.

Wow Congratulations that is terrific news. Can you call the Police Department and make arrangements to pick it up when you are in that state later in APRIL ? That is really fantastic news. When I lose something I never get it back. I am happpy for you.

I didn't even think about calling to ask if I can pick up with later in April. I'll have to call and ask about that. Thanks for the suggestion!

Usually when I lose something it's lost for good.. LOL.. Congrats on getting your stuff back though that's wonderful. I've had to replace that stuff a few times and it's always such a hassle. My favorite lost stuff example from my own life is with bank cards. I left my card by the machine in my hometown once. I live in a small place where everyone knows everyone. I never saw my card again. Then about a year later I'm in Edmonton mall for vacation and again I left my card by the machine. I left my number with the malls lost and found but really had no hope. I was panicked. Out of town and no access to my bank account. The next day mall security called my hotel to let me know that the card had indeed been turned in. I was absolutely stunned. I really wish that they'd gotten the name of the person who returned it. They were an actual life saver. Even know I think about it once in a while and send out good vibes to whoever it was that turned my card into the lost and found in one of the world's biggest malls.

Can you not just call them and claim it by phone and have them send it to you? They could courier it at your expense which would be much easier than having someone else go get it.

The letter that was sent to me said that I had to bring the letter and some form of photo ID (which right now is my expired passport) to claim it...or I could have someone pick it up and they would need to have a notorized letter from me and some form of ID. I will be calling to see if there is any other option other than those 2.

I lost my phone is france, luckily i speak fluent french or i would have had hell, see my phone was found by a policeman and it has all my details written in UVA ink on the battery so they shone a light on it and contacted me, they started speaking french to my mum who cannot understand a word other than "parlez vous un anglais" they asked to speak to me and i had a pleasant chat with them and they happily sent it to me on the terms that i sent back the paper work within a month. During the time i lost it i didnt feel anything, i thought it was gone so i got a new phone hehe so now i have two phones which i am thinking of giving one to my brother who wants his very first phone so yea hehe thats my experience.
