Can anyone recommend any funny novels?

I love reading humopurous novels but they are quite difficult to find as they don't have their own section in bookshops. The Humour section is generally cartoon books etc. If anyone knows of any really funny novels I would really appreciate suggestions.

I loved Tyler Perry's "Don't make a Black Woman take off her earrings" that book had me howling. I had to read some to my mother and she just laughed her sides off too. You can get this book at Amazon and comes highly recommended.

I loved "The Business" by I. Banks, I guess I have recommended it before. To explain why I liked it so much I give there a quote by G.B. Shaw: "When a thing is funny, search it for a hidden truth."

I would suggest the Xanth novesl by Piers Anthony. The series is set in the fantasy land of Xanth, a world that lives off magic and puns. It's great and you will smile. They are well thought out and have a lot of detail to them.

Well the Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy by douglas adams has already been suggested, but I also recommend the Dirk Gently series by the same author. The Discworld series by Terry Pratchett is also very funny.

America (The Book) was great. So was George Carlin's When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops? For more classic comedy, try Ken Kesey's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

best funny book is without doubt the Hitchhickers guide to the galaxy, you should definately read that. I would also recommend any Jasper Fforde books. They are a bit odd but very funny. general storyline is that his books are all based in an alternative 1985 where Dodos have been genetiocally engineered, Wales is a communist republic, cheese is illegal and the lead character (for the first 4 books) is a literrary detective who has the ability to travel into books where it is her job to stop characters from jumping from books and taking over other. That gives you an idea of what to expect Finally Tom Holt books are also good, i've only just discovered him so can't tell you a lot about his books but they are full of weird mythical creatures and people wih strange powers, a very funny book so far. I'm currently reading Earth, air, fire and Custard (he has loads of books to choose from though, at least 20 novels)

The Corrections by Jonathan Franzen is kinda funny. Although it's kinda heartbreaking, too. Susanna Clarke's Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell is a comedy of manners and it involves magic.

Tom Robbins is great! My favorite is 'Jitterbug Perfume'. Charles Bukowski is another whose work is humorus, though mostly stories about drinking and womanizing. 'Ham on Rye' is a good one to start with. (Bukowski is now deceased.)

I absolutely love the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. Her other books are good as well.
