Have you had people ask to be your friend just to spam you with their crap?

I'm pretty easy going when it comes to accepting MyLot friends but there is nothing that annoys me worse then some idiot that requests to be a friend and then sends you instand spam. First off, do you honestly think I'm going to click on your links? I mean, really. And second off, if you JUST requested to be my friend why would I just assume the links you sent are so wonderful? At least be smart enough to "befriend" me with answering discussions and such! LOL
Anyone else get these often?
Do you just delete them as friends as soon as you get the spam they send? I do.

I think it happens to all of us at some stage. I got a few how sent spam and also asked for me to send money in chain letters. I checked their profiles and they had never posted or responded to topics so I just deleted them. They didn't register with myLot to take part in discussions, it was just to have somebody to send their rubbish to.

This is exactly what I do before I accept them as friends; so I pray that I'll never have to delete someone for this. They can ask me if I'm interested in something new before they actually send me the url, etc. Be my friend first, then we'll see...lol
Also, congratulations, Alexandria on your 100/100 rating. Proud of you and keep up the great work; I'd like to have you as a friend if you wouldn't mind?

I check usually to see if they're "legit" but those that don't have many posts I tend to give the benefit of the doubt and go "oh,they're new" LOL I'm just such a sucker! LOL

Yes. A couple of times, one was almost instant - no sooner had I hit approve than I had a spam email. So I turned right around and deleted both the email and the friend :-)
Like you I'm pretty easy going when it comes to accepting friends and for myself probably go to the opposite extreme where I won't contact anyone on my frieds list at all unless I know they speficially want me to - either they've emailed me to ask or they've left a note in a discussion etc.
It's just plain rude - but thankfully that delete button is pretty easy to find :-)

That has only happened to me twice, so far. One was someone who I recognized from yahoo and I accepted their request just so I could send a message saying that I was POSITIVE they wouldn't be spamming me the way they spammed others on Yahoo. The other was some fool who hadn't read my post carefully. He tried to convince me to sign up, under his referral code of course, on a site that I was already a member of.

I've been lucky so far, but I'm sure the longer I am here the more likely it is to happen. I did get one first off as I was so pleased someone wanted to be a friend, gullible really. lol

It hasn't happened to me yet, as I did join MyLot under a friend, & a few of our friends assembled here on MyLot. A good number of my responses do have some kind of joking around in it, so that should mention something about me.
I've been waiting for someone to spam me because I've got a good come-back reply that's itching to be sent back. I'd also LOVE to see the look at the spammer's face when he sees my reply.

I had a couple but I don't have them on the list anymore. To me that is just rude of them to do. Now I'm a bit more careful in accepting people to my friends list. I look at their discussions and see what they have. I look to see if I've posted to theirs or if they have posted to mine. Mainly so I can figure out why they would pick me. I have noticed lately I've been getting some with just a couple of posts to their name and those really make me wonder. I will admit those I have a tendency just to deny so I don't have to worry. It can be a problem but what else can we do but be selective?

I delete those friends who do that. I would rather have friends who can respond to my discussions, not waste my time with more spam.

It hasn't happened yet, but I won't be surprised when it does.
I have a hard enough time getting my real life friends not to send me crap! My mailbox is always full of virus warnings and the same jokes I've seen five million times.

Well so far so good for me. I have requested friends and recieved requests but so far no spam.
If I did and felt it was not okay I would delete that friend.
If you want a friend you should first be friendly.
Thanks for the heads up however.

I don't know why people do this, is it just to aggravate us? I am pretty sure they are aware that it is spam so why do it in the first place? Sometimes I do delete them.

Hello hockeygal, I haven't denied anybody who wish to be on my list. But I always check on their activities to see who really understand the meaning of giving and taking. I mean I've been trying to give my 100% support to these friends and it will be so much better if they reciprocate the same. I did receive one friend just recently and I can smell right away his intention. I will still try to give him a week time to see what his true motives are. Happy posting!!!

Thanks. I pretty much do the same. I have found a few that insist upon being spammers though. No biggie to me.. just hit the delete button! LOL

This has been happening to me a lot lately, and like you, I delete them for sending me spam.
When I logged in today, there was one friend request. Instead of simply approving it, like I have done in the past, I checked to see what type of questions this person posts. Sure enough, the posts were a bunch of "how to make quick money" type of stuff so I denied this person as a friend. The spamming is getting out of control!

Hi! This just happened to me, too! LOL (Must have been the same person LOL). I sent a message back stating that spam isn't appreciated on Mylot, then I immediately deleted that person. That's just rude to use friendship links to spam people! :-)

LOL... you're kinder then me. I just hit delete and don't bother to send them back anything. Although if we all spammed them back with messages perhaps that would send a clue to them? LOL
Oh well. No sleep loss over it for sure but I just wondered if these people hit tons of others also. Must be!

I delete them right away after seeing their profiles & no posts or just posts with their referral links. One can add the referral link to their home page here. Thats what I prefer they do. Not as a friend request or on comments pages etc. Thanks a lot for this topic. I've seen a lot along this line.
Happy postings from Grandpa Bob

That has definitely happened to me before. I was so mad. I immediately unfriended them and never heard from them again. Now I don't really accept friend requests, I only send them out. I don't want a lot of friends, I just want links to good discussions.

Just delete them as a friend I guess. You will get "hit" with their junk once but not again because they can't send you stuff if they're not a friend.

I've only been a member for a few days. My second day, I receive a request to add a friend. I thought no big deal, but then I received spam mail. I think it's rude! I would never request a friend just to send them junk!

Agreed! It is beyond rude and ignorant if you ask me! Oh well.. thank goodness there are a bunch of us here that ARE here for the right reasons and use our online courtesies instead of trying to make our first million! LOL
